@8 psi...Is this right???

so i installed my fmic, and had it tuned on an APEXI SAFC, this is everything i had done to it: custom 3 inch catback exhaust from the o2 bung after the cat to an OBX twin loop muffler, FMIC w/re-circulating BOV, and APEXI SAFC....I made 202hp/208tq@8psi. My previous set-up was SMIC, no tune, the previous exhaust set-up @14psi....i made 185hp/197trq.

are these numbers for realz? or am i higher or lower than it suppose to be?
 
The T25 can be turned up to 15psi on a stock fuel system.

You actually lost velocity and pressure with the T25 by putting on the large FMIC. The T25 can't push enough air to fill it up and keep it pressurized. I'm sure there is a decent amount of lag you are experiencing with that being on there.

Did you do a boost leak test after you installed everything and what psi did you pressurize it to?

IMO you would actually gain power by putting the SMIC back on. You only need to use a FMIC or a larger IC once you continuously heat soak the stock SMIC.

Although you obviously don't need a bigger intercooler with the t-25 and I was always under the impression that using one anyway would cause more lag, here is what dsm-onster said not too long ago regarding it.


Not sure about how a FMIC has anything to do with reducing max performance with a t25. One of my dsms is a 5speed with a 13g, yes different wheels and covers; but damn near same flow/spool/response on both ends of the charger to a t25.

Point is that small turbos handle decent sized FMIC cores just fine. Spool speed is not different from my actual experience. In fact, free revving spool shows you there's no loss in spool with this setup; of which is nothing more than good restoration/maintenance, stock timing, stock 7.8CR, 2" hardpiping throughout WITH ZERO LEAKS (see good maintenance), stock down pipe, stock flywheel, stock intake pipe with STOCK AIR FILTER replacement (no k&n/wix/etc), 2.5" exhaust with a baffled muffler, and a semi-large FMIC (22" X 9" X 2.5" mishimoto core). I don't even have a ball/spring manual boost controller to keep the gate shut until my desired boost threshold is seen. Just nipple to actuator. It hit's just as hard as with the Sidemount. Peters off up top slightly less infact (likely from cooler charge from the higher speeds vs. a stock IC).

BTW, this car is a blast to drive. 1) Slightly smaller tire diameter w/ light 14" rims (good for lowering tire pressure at track time). 2) Fast spooling turbo. 3) Good larger intercooler to keep ACTs down with smooth transitions in the piping. 4) Stripper model (no power anything, no spare/jack). 5) Fwd. 6) N/t transmission: interesting/beneficial gear ratios with a small turbo setup (though not very durable, but I'm running stockish torque, and it's held just fine). This is what the fwd from the factory should have had. Give the bigger turbo to the awd cars with more weight drivetrain loss and premium 16" wheels.
 
Even so, I still wouldn't use one on a T25 at all and not to mention there are all sorts of pipe lengths out there; More pipe=more lag. DSMonster prob had some short route piping and the girl above may have had the Greddy kit (possibly) which is the longest long route you can get.


But she prob. also has boost leaks as well which will affect her numbers. Hell her BOV (if adjustable) is prob. opening up while in boost too. It's a PITA to get them adjusted properly LOL
 
Why are you only running 8psi? You had the car tuned and turned the boost down?

I wondered this too. Like Liquidx said, a t25 might not do much, but it can still be pushed to 14-15 psi. I don't think I understand the point of the thread. Were you disappointed in the numbers after the tune? If so, turn up the boost.
 
Numbers seem about right considering, but like stated above, you dont even need a FMIC. You would definately make a lot more power and torque if you were running a SMIC. Just get a bigger turbo and have it re tuned, youll be much happier with 100 more whp, which you could get easily by just throwing a 16g on it, turning the boost up and re tuning.
 
thanx to all replies. my bad i wasnt very clear with my details. I had a NXS mbc which malfunctioned(iono how) the boost kept shooting to like 20psi and they couldnt tune it down so i told the shop to jus take it out and tune on stock boost. and im only on the stock turbo. a 16g is in the future......

i was also told if i up the boost to 14 or 15psi on this stock turbo, my numbers should be near 300hp if not above 300hp w/ a good tune. are these numbers realistic or was they BSn???
 
I would also get a bigger downpipe. I couldn't see you making anywhere close to 300 whp with the stock one. Even then the t25 won't really get you there, assuming you're talking about at the wheels. The only way to really find out what your car makes is to take it back to the dyno though seeing as every car is different.
 
I highly doubt 300hp with a T25 is possible, around 240 or 250 is possible though.
 
Deff. not 300WHP on a T25, you may be able to get 230WHP on it but at 15psi you are just about maxing out the turbo and then blowing hot air.

Halman is considered the top shelf MBC but you are paying big dollars for a simple ball and spring inside a t fitting. You can make your own as well. I have a Joe P MBC and I've heard TurboXS is alright as well.
