I just pulled my engine tonight to get ready to put in a 6bolt, but i was wondering if there was a way to build my 7bolt so it wont crankwalk? yeah thats why I pulled it, it walked all over me LOL. If I got a certain crank or anything like that? there has to be some way? I did search for it, but no luck. Or is my best bet to just get the 6bolt? I didn't really want to mess with the 6bolt swap. I'm only locking to spend around 3 or 4 grand. thanks for your help!

I believe its the bearing behind the flywheel that causes crank walk.
I think its called a "thrust bearing".

I dont see why everyone swaps out the 7 bolt for 6 bolts. Fix the factory defect on the 7 bolt and your good to go.

It is the thrust bearing from what I read, I just stroked my 7 bolt and used new thrust bearings hopefully mine wont crank walk on me.

yeah thats what I want to do to mine, maybe a 2.3 or 2.4. what do you think? but I really just don't want it to walk again! how long have you been driving yours since you put in your new thrust bearings?

If you don't mind me asking? how much did you end up spending on you rebuild?

Thanks for your help!

LOL okay. Does anyone els have any experience with a 7bolt rebuild? If it walked again or its been running strong, anything will help! I need to get on the road fast but I want to build it up a little before I putt the engine back in. Or any other ideas would be GREAT!!

Thanks

The ACT2600 is mainly whats screwing up your thrust bearings. Marco has an interesting article on his site about this. Magnus Motorsports

Thats what I was told, so I ordered a ACT2100 for it but it walked the day before I got it LOL. Thanks for the link I will have to read it a few more times to make sure I get everything!

Thank you!

Anyone els with some helpful info?

Your thrust bearings are in the middle section, not behind your flywheel, I just finish my build and used Clevitt 77 bearings and still going good, crankwalk was a problem form the first assembly, if you replace the main bearings you should have no problems, MAKE sue you check your crankshaft endplay, that is the important part, too much equals problems.:dsm:

I read the magnus post, I cleaned the blocked(Need air and a thin oil for the passages, and soap and water for the rest, wipe the water off quickly. Use a pin light to check your oil passages the best you can. the rest is just checking your tolerance on everything. Buy a new oil pump to be safe. I left my oil squiters in, its up to you.( if you take them out plug the holes) The rest was just a normally assembly. My opinon dont buy cheap bearings.

I'm using a 7-bolt 4G64 that was put together by a reputable shop. People say that '64's don't crankwalk, but I think it's a definite possibility that any of the 4G6x series are capable of it, even the much vaunted 6-bolts. There's a lot of empirical evidence that points to the use of heavy pressure aftermarket clutches causing the problem. That being said, there are stock motors that have done it, too.

Everyone's got a reason, everyone's got a solution. Mine is simple: Use quality parts, plan your build from the beginning with parts that are designed to work in harmony, and if something's beyond your expertise level, have someone who *does* have that expertise do it or at the very least, help you. Forums go a long way- I've learned quite a bit from this place. But nothing beats the School of Hard Knocks.

Thank you all for your info and help with this!! I think I am just going to rebuild my 7bolt!

Thanks again!
