2G 750cc with stock ecu, eprom fried

So here's my dilemma....about a week ago, I had a short that kept blowing my ignition fused. Story short, it turned out to be the lower switch on the clutch pedal had busted and grounded to the actual pedal. So I fixed that. Afterwards, I replaced the fuse and it would start right up. But when I started driving, it would shut off and turn right back on by itself. Eventually, the fuse would blow again. I rechecked all wiring and found nothing. So I threw in an old stock ecu and everything works great now. However, my buddy needs his 450cc stock injectors back for his own car (I used his so I could test out stock ecu). So now I have 750cc injectors. I need to get my car across town to my garage for the winter. Can I drive it with a stock ecu and 750cc injectors safely? It's only a 5 minute drive but I don't want to damage anything.
Also, what do you think about my ECMLink chip in the eprom ecu? Do you think it's ok?
 
Given that your failed ECU will actually run, though intermittently, I'd say there's a good chance the EEPROM is fine; otherwise, if this eeprom failed, I wouldn't think it would run at all since all the computer code has to be supplied by this EEPROM.

As for driving with the 750cc injectors on a stock ECU, I'm not sure that the stock ECU has enough adjustability to keep you from running rich at idle. If it does, then you may be OK going a short distance as long as you stay under closed-loop engine control where the O2 sensor drives the fuel control instead of the open-loop tables in the ECU. Going open-loop would likely result in excessively rich running due to the original fuel mappings for the OEM injectors. Do you still have a catalytic converter? If so, that would be my biggest concern since it would be the most likely component to be damaged by the excessive fuel. Anyway, perhaps this post will bump the discussion back up where someone who's tried this before might have a more definitive answer.
 
Why can't you borrow said buddy's injectors for this 5 min trip? I doubt the car will idle and drive running that rich, but it may. As for will you hurt anything if it does run? Prob not if it's really only 5 mins, but like I said, why can't you use the 450s for another 5 mins?
I was going to but the guy is just someone at my college that has a dsm. I don't even have his number. He just stopped by when he saw my car dead in the parking lot.
Have you checked out the ECU to see what (if anything) is blown? Maybe post some pictures of it if you're not sure.

I don't think the car will run with a stock ECU and 750's. If so, I personally wouldn't feel safe dumping that much fuel without the risk of flooding something.

I'm really hoping it's fine. I can't test the ECMLink chip though because I don't have another eeprom/eprom (???) ecu to test it with. That's why I asked what others thought about that. I guess I'll find out when I can afford another one.
No I don't have a cat converter. However, I didn't know how much adjustability the stock ecu has for injectors. I'm pretty iffy about trying it. I'll have to find some really cheap 450cc's for the trip I think.

Most common ECU problem is the "leaking capacitors" problem where the capacitors leak out electrolyte and corrode/eat the traces beneath it; however, I don't readily see any signs of this from the pictures you've provided. Basically, there would be a "goo" buildup (for lack of better words) between the leads of one or more of the Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors if this was going on on your ECU.

Beyond that, the only other "easy fix" I can think of might be to make sure the ECM-link EEPROM is well seated in the socket... if you haven't done so already!
 
Stock injectors are usually about $40. If you really want to be safe buy a spare set.

That's exactly what I did. I didn't want to spend the money to do it just for a five minute trip though. I found some for about $50.
