Here is the list of work/mods I want to do with my engine, wanna stick with the 2.0...I want it to hold 500 AWHP easily with some room to grow...Looking for feedback on parts or other items to use...This is still a work in progress so I will update as I go...Also, I know that these parts alone will not get me there, just looking to get it ready for that much hp later down the road...turbo set up I am looking at is an HX40 and only have access to 91 pump gas for the time being...

Block

Clean/Blasted/Hot Tanked - whatever the machine shop does
Align Honed
Re-Surface Block Deck and Cylinder Head - Straighten/Square as needed
Bore and Hone Piston Cylinders (Not sure how far it needs to go yet)
1/2" Head Stud Converted w/ ARP Hardware
New Freeze Plugs
Painted

Internals/Other Mods

Wiseco Forged Pistons
Eagle H Beam Connecting Rods
ARP Rod Bolts
ACL Rod and Main Bearing Tri-metal Set
OEM Crank (Cleaned up and reused from my engine)
Fluidampr HB (Lightweight Flywheel will be used)
Full OEM Gasket Kit
External Oil Cooling Mod/Components
OEM Timing Belt and other associated components
Balance Shafts Eliminated
OEM Water Pump
Mishimoto Thermostat
Port the Oil Paths in the Front Case

Cylinder Head Work

Cleaned/De-greased
Valve Facing/Seating
Guides - Still deciding
Valves - Still deciding
Valve Springs - Leaning toward Kiggly
Oil Port Modification
Lifters - still deciding
Camshafts - Kelford 272/272

Thanks for looking/reviewing...I will keep updating as I go

This thread couldn't have had better timing, I'm building a 7 bolt with similar goals and ideas! I'm going with a pretty much identical bottom end after very much research. I think I'm going to delete my oil squirters and port the front case for more oil flow, that may be something to look into, although its not a path most choose.

I'm actually doing the same thing right now with my 7bolt. Motor is built and sitting on engine stand in garage while I decide if I'm going to move forward with the build or just sell it all before I get in any deeper. The guy that was going to help me with rebuilding the car just up and vanished and left me here not knowing too much about dsm's and a gst all taken apart in my garage.

What to do....

iugrad92turbo - Thanks for reviewing my list

Insomniac13 - Good luck with your build! I have not given the squirts much thought yet, but porting the front case is a good idea...I will look into that..Thanks!

xtotek - Sorry to hear about your luck, but there should be enough info out there for you to get that engine back in yourself, I am new to DSMs and this level of work on autos so I am going to be on here a lot looking for info, best of luck!

I would run a felpro head gasket, they are the best in the business imo, My block is o ringed and my head is reciever grooved and I run a copper gasket. But if I had just a good surface on head and block I would run a felpro.

I'm planning on an HX40 as well, they're relatively cheap for what you get and I've got plenty of experience with them from Dad's Cummins :p

Blue Blaze - I am sending the block to be machined soon, and I wanted to use a copper gasket, I was under the impression they were decent, I will look into the Fel-Pro

97_4G63t - Nice turbo pick up, and thanks!

Insomniac13 - The HX40 seems to be the way to go, good luck with it, I will post of the progress of mine when it's time

stephen_gst - Injectors will be upgraded to whatever size seems adequate, and for the fuel system probably a drop in tank set up with a Walbro and stainless lines, AFPR, rewired...the works..for now this is just the engine machining and hardware, I find that I needed to keep it simple for now :p

I am working on changing a few things, looking into the BC Rods...and I only have access to 91 pump...really wanted E85...and as for pistons I am still choosing...will be forged...I will post up an update to the list soon

I would go with the I beam rods over the H beam.
That's kind of a blanket statement.

With rods, it's always strength and stiffness (IE: cross-sectional area) VS. weight. Not every shape/design is always stronger or lighter than the other. For example; Eagle H-beams are stronger than OE 7-bolt I-beams. But Manley Turbo Tuff I-beams are stronger than Eagle H-heams.

So, when shopping for or recommending a rod, pick a specific rod (with good reason, too), not just a general shape/design

That being said; Eagle h-beams are more than strong enough for 500whp on a 4G63, and at a reasonable weight too.

Decent mods list, but some of it is overkill for an HX40. Eagle H-beams will handle just fine. So would standard ARP head studs.

Check out the mods list in my profile. I was running a 60mm H1E at truly stupid boost and timing levels with an "entry level" engine. It's all in the tune.

Thanks for the info on the Rods, both of you...I was looking at the BC rods, but you think they would be too much for my goals? And, I figured if I had a bit stronger internals that would allow for some room to grow if I wanted to change out the HX40 idea or upgrade later...That turbo seems to be it for me for now though...

EDIT:

Also, I agree with you on the tune...I have someone picked out to do the tune when the time comes...I want to use DSMLink

I have heard good about both brands...would you mind sharing more on your opinion of the BCs? If not, I understand...I like the price of the Eagles better...would you recommend Oliver over BC for something comparable in price? Thanks

i dont have much experience about oliver but they make quality product. lots of v8 guys use their rods for example and priced around $750, its a beefy rod that will handle 700+ hp from research ive done.
This will come down to how much you want to spend and how far you want to future proof if you plan on doing more horsepower.
As Paul said, Eagles can take you far if you want to stay within around 600 and good tune.

Brian Crower is a newer company, and they got off to a REALLY bad start with the DSM crowd. Horridly machined cams, issues with crankshafts, etc etc. Whether or not that's still the case, I couldn't tell you.

Eagle on the other hand is a familiar name with "tried and true" products. Eagle H-beams have been a DSMer favorite since day 1 because of their quality and price. IMO, if you want a better rod than Eagle, be prepared to pay at least 2x the price.

Thanks Phantom DSM, I will probably go with those then (Eagles)...I like using the proven parts, so thanks to you too WES_393...with that said about the BCs, on EXPSI they have a BC Cam/Spring set on sale for about the same as just Kelford 272s...With my limited knowledge on Cams I figured the 272s would fit my build need...so with the tired and true idea in mind would you suggest the Kelfords too then?

Kelford makes quality cams and aggressive on the 272, definitly recommend the upgraded springs if your going with 272s ..As wes says, the general opinion has been a bad taste with BC anything... People report less than satisfactory results with their cams. Go for another spring kit.

The race beehive springs are next on my list for a new head setup. Honestly, everybody loves em from what i read, i cant give you personal experience..yet Street or race, its up to your budget, the race would be overkill imo. The spring rate and seat pressure rating is more than cmparable to other s like gsc and supertech
