i had put a turbonetics 60 trim on my talon with 550 injectors and it started smoking so i pulled the pulled and they were fine, and after boosting it would puff white smoke.. so i pulled it off and checked it and it had a lil shaft play. and i took it in to get fixed and bbushings will cost around 600 dollars.. i dont have the money for that so what do i do? do i pull the stock back on there and turn up the boost?

How about check another shop? I dont see why a shop would charge $600 for a rebuild.

At that price though, just buy a used 16g or something for like $250-300.

Dont just go and "turn up the boost", you will blow your motor. You can achieve the same results with a smaller turbo sometimes as compared to a big turbo.

well i mean i wasnt gona just runa and turn up the boost but i was tune it with higher boost. but ya idk about that price but would a good turbo that wont have as much problems with a big turbo?

I won't use another Turbonetics anything as long as I live.

We installed a brand new Turblownetics 60-1 on TalonDave's car a few years ago- he drove the car from his shop to mine without hitting high boost once (around 90 miles); we took the car for a rip down the road and the first pull under boost ended in a smokeshow with the compressor wheel scraping the housing.

Absolute garbage.

That was a sad day! All the time spent fabing up a down pipe, oil return, and tracking down a manifold to fit that turbo... I will never go back to another turbonetics! Like justin said It was brand new, and didn't last 100miles.

^^ I would take there word. Justin and Dave no there shit. But as for a turbo, i know i will stick with the family and always run Mitshubishi turbo's. My next is either a 18g or 20g. Which i am currently looking into buying if someone has one.

Im kinda keen to try a FP Red of whatever i have been hearing so much about. (Still uses Tdo5 housings though)

The Red has been around for quite a while now; many guys who buy this turbo thinking it's a street performer are highly disappointed. This is a race-oriented turbo that likes a ton of boost and supporting mods to make power, the same as any other 60-1 Garrett setup.

If you buy a Red to run 18psi, you're better off with a 16G.

Ah alright, sounds good. Thanks justin, i think i might just go with a 18g and run around 25psi. We will see when the time gets there. Im not ready for running that bit yet, but new pump, afpr, and injectors are on my list. Im maxed at 19psi on my 16g atm. (stock injectors)

I always loved my 20g I had! That thing was a blast at 22psi, and it was so reliable!!!

Then you have a long way to go before you're ready for something like a FP Red. There are so many good options in between including the 20G, HTA68, any of the millions of turbos out there by various vendor which are all based off the Garrett 50-trim (stay away from PTE), Holset HX35, Bullseye S2xx, etc.

I still think a TD05H 20G is one of my favorite street turbos- especially in an AWD car with stock cams and boost around 20-22psi.

Just roll the throttle on in third you're in for a treat. It hits with a surge of power similar to an Evo III 16G but pulls a few hundred RPMs further on top...and at 20-22psi with a clean oil supply a 20G will literally outlast anything made by Garrett or their copycats; not to mention it's a direct bolt-on replacement using all of the OEM 1G oil and coolant hardware.

Thats what i love about Mitshi turbos.... most likely why i am going to get a 20g. But yes i no i have a "long way" to go, but i am currently half way around the world from my car. But am finding i am able to pick up some parts cheaper here in NZ then back home. Found a used 20g for $350NZ, thats like $260 US! And evo's are EVERYWHERE, so hopefully gonna pull a lot of injectors and manifolds and what not.

Oh and also ^^ more of what you said about the Red. I had not researched it, just heard it performed well and had a small read. I am looking to just have fun in my 2g, put some 550's, maybe 650's, up the boost and fuel, and have a little more. I plan on getting a bike, so that will be my GO FAST toy.

The 60-1 red turbo is a lag monster considering how much peak power it has produced.

I like the td06 20g. I just have an an@l thing about a balanced turbo. It takes alot of "extra" supporting mods to see the full potential of the 20g compressor wheel with the td05h turbine wheel and 7cm^2 housing.

BUT, when you want more you can always swap in a t3 manifold and use the 8cm^2 or 10cm^2 t3 flanged turbine housings (they're hard to find but out there).

I bought a used Turbonetics "60 trim" years ago. Fed it from the OFH with no balance shafts and unrestricted for over 40k miles and always above 20 psi daily. I beat on that turbo hard and it never ever showed an ounce of shaftplay or smoking. I kinda regret ditching it for my HX35 and not pushing it harder. Alwell.

Hope this helps. Lol.

Try the td05h 20g. If you have an itch for more. You can take the turbo to someone like gpop shop who can cut the turbine housing for a td06h wheel and have them swap out your td05h turbine wheel. But. . . In the long run you'll be paying alot more buying the turbo then having that done to it later.

You can get a true garrett CHRA for your t-netics turbo I THINK. Your 60-1 was too large for your goal. Unless it was the t04e 60trim. . . You'll have to measure the wheels if you want to swap ina garrett chra.

450whp? the td05h 20g can do it. Though I like to take 16g hotsides (what such a 20g will have) out of the picture at this power level. There's other turbos out there that cost the same as the td05h 20g but flow ALOT more on the hotside, keeping back pressure down and really helping you get more power without such high boost.

^^ Sounds good to me. I think i found a legit 20g here in NZ for 250 US! I asked Justin to take a look at the numbers for me ### i am unsure of the 20g but it looks legit. I am going to try and find one for my car so when i return home.
