How do I tell if I have a 6 bolt or a 7 bolt?
Will x part from a 6 bolt fit a 7 bolt?

What is the difference between 6-bolt and 7-bolt engines (aside from the obvious - 6 vs. 7 bolts connecting the flywheel :p )

Is there an advantage over either of the two engines?

I have a 1990 eclipse gs turbo and a 1993 g/s none turbo. My problem is i don't know if i should pull my turbo engine out of the 90 and stuff it in to the 93. The 93 has the 7 bolts on the flywheel where as the 90 has the 6 from what i understand is the better of the two weather its boosted or not. Right??, i think?? I more or less want peoples opinion what body everyone thinks is nicer. Also should i put the 6 bolt engine i got in place of the 7 bolt? Neither of the cars are my daily drivers so times not an issue ill try to get some pictures up tomorrow.
 
What is the differnce in the arp head studs in a 7-bolt in comparison to a 6-bolt eng.
I am currently doing a swap in which i was installing a 7-bolt eng into my 1g eclipse.
I purchased head studs for a 6-bolt a while back and figured they would work however they are too short??
 
I'm sorry I don't remember which is which, I can look it up if you want, but I know between the 7 bolt and 6 bolt head, one bolt is 11mm and one is 12mm.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
 
Why would you swap a 7 bolt in place of a 6 bolt? That doesnt make sense.. Crankwalk is the 7-bolt's favorite thing..

Other way around, 6-bolt uses 12mm while the 7-bolt uses 11mm
 
haha.. overrated? I dont get it.. Its not like people want it, and I can name 10 people on here just off the top of my head that suffered from this problem.. the only benefit of the 2g swap is the head, and you can just swap the head on the 6 bolt, just like all those cats do in their 2g's.. The 6 bolt may have a slightly smaller crank, but it makes up for it by being more reliable and having bigger rods than the 7 bolt.. :).. big rods are good when you are boosting the hell out of your car.. Crank walk may not happen, but how much would it suck if it did?

I fail to see how the 7 bolt head is better? I am putting a 6 bolt head and intake manifold on my 7bolt block...The 6 bolt has much bigger ports, which obviously means better airflow, and with better airflow, comes a better running turbo...So, the 7 bolt head is not better.

Yeah, I figured you got them mixed up, but yeah, the 6 bolt is FAR better than the 7 bolt...If I had the time and money, I would most definately do a 6 bolt swap, but, a top end 6 bolt swap is the next best thing I suppose.

It'll be a never-ending argument as to which is ultimately better, but power can be made with both, and the 2g head can always be ported to the size of the 1g. I'm running 11's on a small 16g and stock 2g intake manifold and head, so it can't be THAT bad (cams are the key).

Port size is a compromise between flow and velocity. Bigger isn't always better.

Wow, I know we are all entitled to our own opinions, but wow, I really have to disagree with that...The bigger the port, the more airflow, with more airflow you have a more efficient, more h/p capable turbo.
how could the ports be "too big"?
