Ok, when aligning the timing marks on the engine, crank at the 3 o clock position and cam dowels at 12. Timing marks aligned with the top of the head. Now, when tightening the tensioner it pulls the crank out clockwise but the cams stay aligned. I have not been able to get it to properly line up after numerous tries.. I was told it's fine. Just need to get a second opinion.

The gears are AEM True times and the belt is a Kevlar Cosworth.

It does still move. I can only install the belt one tooth clockwise and one tooth counter clockwise. Counter clock wise leaves the crank just before the mark and clockwise leaves the crank after the mark. Nothing in between. :(

Well, dead on the mark brings it just past.

With the crank here, to get the belt to align I have to crank it slightly clockwise. The cam gears are set at 0 and level with the head. It's almost like something isn't lined up? I'm really at a loss. I've tried getting it to line up multiple times. No cigar.

Well, I feel a bit stupid... Cams were misaligned again.... So if this is ever the case. Look there.

If you can't get the crank gear to line up than you probably have the cam gears off. You can have the marks lined up but one tooth off. The marks will just be lined up a little higher. Take a pic of how you have the cams lined up. If you take the belt turn the exhaust gear clock wise one tooth on the belt than roll the cams counter clock wise until they line up again that will make it right. A good way to get the belt set on the crank right is to turn the crank counter clockwise a half a tooth past the timing mark than put the belt on it and turn it back to the timing mark, that will take the slack out of the idler side. When you are putting the belt on, make sure that you have the belt attached to the cam gears with some clips or zip ties to lock them to the belt.

crud is cleaned out Steve. That was the result of an improperly sealed cam cover. Leaked oil down the front side of the engine. Well the whole thing really. Very very slowly.

As for the timing marks. I just placed a ruler across the spark plug holes and slid it out through the cam gears. Lined them up and had someone hold them while I quickly finished the timing and tensioned everything. Tension was within spec the first try without the proper spanner too. :hellyeah:

But anyway, I underestimated the exhaust cam. Thus the reasoning for this post...

Any aftermarket dipsticks? I need room to route a 3 inch exhaust and cutout through there off the DP.
