Need some input and I'll put this as clearly as possible.
I bought a 1995 talon tsi awd that had a cracked bell housing. As I was pulling the engine, the cracked piece completely broke off. A friend then threw the piece away (no idea why, I was inside at the time and didn't.know.)
I have a 91 tsi awd as well and was wondering. Would a 6 bolt bell housing bolt onto a 7 bolt transmission and then to the block with no problems? Otherwise. Would a 6 bolt transmission and transfer case bolt to the 7 bolt block and stock 1995 driveshaft with no problems? I'm trying to get my car back on the road without buying a new tranny.

The 1G transmission will not work in a 2G car that has the original 2G engine without some wild fabrication. Whether the bellhousing can bolt up to the 2G transmission is irrelevant.

Notice where the 2G engine mount brackets are located. Two of them, the front and rear roll stops, are bolted to the transmission on the bellhousing. A 1G does not mount the same way nor does it have provisions for these mounts.

You're absolutely right and I didn't even think about that. Damn. This is frustrating and definitely going to set my build back a bit. :banghead:

My only options then would be to either get a whole new tranny or get a new bell housing that came on a 4g63 2g stock, huh?

Been here before. I feel your pain. Just grab a used tranny. You can usually find em for 400-600. Pita I know. But its the easiest option.

If you find the piece it still wouldn't be worth it to JB weld or tig on. The cast housings are hard to weld right.

What about looking for just the bellhousing? Maybe a bit hard to find but plausible. Also I would assume the GST and GSX housings are the same?

This got posted twice for some reason... sorry about that.

Thank you guys for the prompt responses!

You could. How comfortable. Are you with opening up the tranny? Also to me its worth the extra 200-300 bucks to have something just to drop in. Instead of another side project on top of another project.
