50 trim cooling question

Is it posible to instead of only oil cool but also water cool the pte 50 trim with standard 360 thrust bearings? JUst curious because the BB CHRA's can be water cooled.
 
Stop bumping your own threads, its not allowed here.

About the turbo, its not needed to be water cooled also. The 360 degree thrust bearing needs alot of oil to go through it. The amount of oil pressure it dont need to be water cooled.
 
Wouldnt water cooling it make it more reliable by keeping the heat down , alot of 50 trims blow their seals quickly, I think because of the extreme heat.
 
It's oil cooled for a reason. If water cooling would seriously decrease the temperature, then you would see a lot more water cooling kits around for that turbo. Oil cooling is sufficient for this turbo.

And if your worried about the gaskets going out a lot, then go with a different turbo setup that won't hold as much heat...unless you already own this one.

Oil cooling is all that is needed. The main problem with 50 trims blowing seals is from the location of the oil feed. Some people havent had problems feeding from the head, but most seem to have problems with it on a pte scm50

No problem, will do. :thumb: I've used that button once and it seemed like it didnt work, but i will continue to do so when i see stuff like that.


Most of these turbos have blown seals because of people not knowing where to feed the oil from. With the 360 degree thrust bearings needing the extra amount of oil, you need to feed them from the Oil Filter Housing. Alot of people dont realize that and just feed them from the Cylinder Head as in the Factory Routing. Its a big no no, which leads to blown seals, thrust bearing damage, over heated center sections and the likes.
