Im in the process of useing a 7 bolt 4g64 block in my 95 tsi. Well now my problem is my knock sensor. There isnt a hole for it. Is it just a water jacket it screws into or what? Can i go without it since im using the 95 ecu? What do i need to do? I have done research and cant come up with anything. Am i not lookin in the right place?

- knock sensor screws right onto the rear BS phase check plug??????
Is this true? Has anyone done it?

My 4G64 from a '99 Eclipse with the revised thrust bearing has the same knock sensor mounting pad as my 4G63.

you should be using the knock sensor that intended for your ecu.

so if you are running a 6bolt in your 2g, and running a eprom/open 2g ecu, then you need a 2g knock sensor.

Wow I totally forgot i posted to this. There should be a place to thread that thing in just like on the 4g63. Should be on the back side of the block right under the intake manifold. Thats were i have mine because thats were it was on the 63 i pulled out the car. Makes things easier when you have the 63 to look at to just transfer over the parts. And the water jacket? I actually had to tap and thread the pipe plug bolt that was already threaded in. Very difficult without a bench drill, not much metal left on either side but works its not a high pressure system.

so the knock sensor should screw in and mount flush with the surface like on the 63. I can see mine from under the car and it isn't threaded in all the way and i'm getting knock. Possibly phantom knock. I tried to get it out but couldn't get a wrench up there and i couldn't muster the power to remove it with my hands. Just trying to see if its supposed to me all the way threaded in like the 63.

i understand that but it doesnt appear to be screwed in all the way. Im going to make another run at unscrewing it tomorrow or the next day but i highly doubt that it is already bottomed out. Will there be adverse effects of it being cross-threaded or not threaded in properly.

If its not tight as it supposed to, you will have some knock issue's,.. Any little vibration the knock sensor senses you will get knock. Just make sure the threads are clean and it goes in easily and tightn it to specs.
