4g54 questions for people who's dealt with it.

1989 dodge ram 50 4x4 2.6 5-speed


I know this isn't really the place for it but I'm not very good at finding sources. the Forums for the ram 50's (aka mighty max) seem to be dead with pretty much no activity or replies on the forum.

I'm hoping since this is a Mits. based forum that some guys on here are knowledgeable in these engines.


anyways.. back to the the point.

oil pump went out and now it's knocking. I'm going to drop the pan and inspect everything but I'm hoping to find some manuals or how to's on rebuildiing etc.

MAIN QUESTION.

Can the main bearings be spun in from the bottom without having to pull the entire engine out and rip it apart???


also anyone know of a good forums for these things. I'm still looking but everything is pretty much dead on these.

Delt with these motors quite a bit.

If is knocking it could be a rod bearing not a main bearing.

Haynes has a manual on these trucks about $18.00.

To answer your question about the mains I almost sure you can, but it is going to be a pain to do, anyways if you did damaged the mains you also will have done damaged to the balance shafts and your timing chain and components should be replaced.

I raced a PLYMOUTH FIREARROW 1980, w/ that same engine, parts for these engines are not that expensive, you could also pick one up at a junkyard

4G54, 2550cc motor .. same motor used in the Dodge Sapporo, early Dodge minivans, and the 2.6L Dodge "K" cars. And was turboed for the Conquest

I've been unable to locate them anywhere and when calling salvage yards asking for a ram 50 engine I've literally been laughed at and told "goodluck"

what are the guidelines of an engine from another vehicle that I can use. Upon reading I hear a lot about narrow/wide and something about it can't be from an auto car?

Interesting, that I've seen quite a few Plymouth Arrow/D-50 pickups in the yards around here that carried the G54B motor..

These motors are everywhere they were used in many platforms, It was the same motor as the starion w/ turbo,
I am pretty sure yours is a narrow block.

Go to project zero g forum, it may be cheaper in the long run to go with a 63 or 64 and you will have a lot better engine
