3rd brake light rattles....who's doin what with it?

Hey guys,

My third brake light (the one on the hatch) has been rattling for quite some time now. I've got an appointment next week to get my windows tinted, and I'm trying to decide if I should just remove that third brake light altogether? It hasn't worked in forever, and I was thinking maybe just remove it, so that they don't have to trim around it when the rear window gets tinted?

Have any of you guys removed that light completely? If so, what did you use to cover up the gap that it leaves in the trim of the rear hatch?

I searched, but didn't find anything along these lines.

Hey man I had this same exact issue with my car. I think its from the crazy vibrations my exhaust give out ha ha. There is nothing wrong with that but i removed mine completely with the old wing and bought myself a "turbo wing" ha ha but I have a 96 GS-T.. My buddy wanted to do the same thing on his 97 GSX but he could not find a way to cover that gap up so he ended up putting it back on.. It just looked horrible and we could'nt find anything.. Check with your state also because the police might give you crap for no 3rd light..

Removal is illegal.

But theres a fancy trick. The bracket that holds the light on is metal, so just give it a soft pull to tweak its shape a little bit and it will no longer rattle off the glass.

I took mine off because it kept blowing bulbs. The sub wasnt helping it out either.

I took mine off too. No problem with inspection.

I put a rubber brace in between the light. Works fine for me.

I also experimented with that at first, but it still rubbed in that spot and was leaving marks on my tint. Glad you found a solution that works for you though.

I removed mine as it not only rattled but was also right in the way of seeing cars behind me (99 has the high wing which you have to look under but above this stupid light ). I just stuffed some black foam rubber in there.
