1G 4G37 jerks at 2500 rpm

my 93 laser 1.8 jerks at around 2500 to 3000 rpm. doesn't matter what gear. also uses twice as much gas and smells rich. any ideas what to check. no mods at all. 5sp fwd

When's the last time you did a tuneup? I would be starting with the easy things like spark plugs, wires, and fuel filter first.

I agree on the tune up. I don't think that it would be running uber rich all stock so the smell could be unburnt gas. I would get new spark plugs, spark plug wires, air filter, etc. How many miles are on it? Also it would be a good idea to clean out the intake pipe and throttle body. Im assuming that the valve cover is still vented into the intake pipe?

replace spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor 500 miles ago. clutch went out in may. replaced but ran like crap then. was running good before. just got around to working on it couple weeks ago. got gas today on way home from work and am getting around 10mpg. checked tps. ohmed out fine. any other suggestions
