1G 4G37 Headgasket Recommendations

Just to preface, I have a 1G Eclipse. 4G37 1.8L engine, and it needs the headgasket replaced. I’ve looked on PartsGeek and Rock Auto (only legit sites I am personally aware of), and the only one I’ve found with measurements is a 3.23in cylinder bore diameter. As far as I am aware, my engine spec is 3.17. I don’t want to risk any of the other ones and they’re also too big, if somebody could let me know if im incorrect and it is a 3.23, or knows where I can get one that’s the correct size I would greatly appreciate it!

3.23" bore composite head gasket is just the right size for 3.17" bore. It's normal that composite head gasket's bore is about 1.5mm larger than the factory standard bore size. It's to cover up to 1.0mm over bore plus some margin for fire rings to be crushed after torquing.

I'm not familiar with 4g37 stuff but just wanted to point out that the gasket bore is almost always bigger then the block bore.

I built a lot of big blocks and its routine to see a 4.39 block with a 4.5 gasket. If going with a 4.5 bore we run a 4.6 gasket. All these being felpro. I also run felpro on my 4g63 stuff.

It's not a highly demanding engine, so just about any name brand gasket will do. IIRC most of them were composite anyway. You'd want a fine RA finish on the head to run an MLS gasket, but it isn't necessary for most 4g37 engines. Hope this helps,
