Ok, I was on Auto Zone's website ordering tuneup parts, Well, I went to click on Ignition coil, and it says it's "Not Required". Why? What gives it spark?

im not sure how its set up but i do know there are no plugs/wires leading to any kind of coil on mine. there are four plug wires but from the dist. but none goinf from the dit to anywhere else.

If you look closer you'll see that there are other wires to it. It gets power and the signal to the internal PTM and sends crank information back to the ECU.

So, then the coil is Irreplaceable? The car has 130k and I would like to replace the coil along with other tuneup parts. :laser:

No one knows anything about this? I happened to see something about a "Igniter module". Is this the actual internals in the distributor? :laser:

The coil on the 4g37 is 'part of' the distributor and is not sold separately. When doing tune-ups on my 90 model (1.8l 4g37) I usually just replace the cap, rotor, spark plugs, and sometimes the wires. The distributors can last for a long time and you likely do not even 'need' a new one on your car. My distributor is the stock one and currently has 256000k on it... I have absolutely no doubt that it will still get me to work in the morning.

I would recommend checking/testing the one you have before you go to replace it.

Good luck with your ride, Hope you get it all worked out. :thumb:
