Ive been looking around on the forums a lot lately and have been reading about the mass air sensors and this blow through and pull through stuff and i can't make any sense out of it. my questions are what is a the difference between a pull type and a blow through mas? and what is the difference between a GM mas compared to the stock one i am running? what is this translator that everyone says you need for the GM setup? i been reading a lot about these things and understand some things but i just need a more through explanation on just these topics. Your help is greatly, greatly appreciated!

Draw through = MAF/MAS is BEFORE the compressor of the turbo. Usually between filter and intake pipe. Air is "drawn through" the MAS by the turbo/engine.

Blow through = MAF/MAS is located AFTER the compressor of the turbo, usually in the upper intercooler pipe. Pressurized air is "blown through" the MAS by the turbo/engine.

The difference between the GM MAF and your stock MAS are the construction, the method for deducing air mass, and the size/restriction of the part itself. The GM MAF is made of aluminum, whereas the stock MAS is made of plastic. Guess which one holds boost better without blowing up or leaking? Since the two sensors are completely different, the GM MAF can't talk to the DSM ECU, so a Translator box is required. It converts the GM sensor output into an output that can be read by the ECU. Also, the 3"/3.5" GM MAF's, when located in the upper intercooler pipe, may provide less of a restriction to airflow. The MAF translator can also be used as a tuning device for larger injectors.

The main reason people go to a blow-through setup is honestly so they can vent their BOV to the atmosphere without losing metered air. When running a vent-only BOV like a Tial or such, this setup is needed.

well thank u very much. where can i get a blow throgh set up? ### im running a blitz bov and would like ot vent it to atmosphere and be able to take my stock intake pipe on and replace wiht a aftermarket version. also where can i get a translator and how to go about installing that?

Many of the vendors here have MAFt setups. Try looking at extrempsi.com, SBR, MAPerformance, VIP garage, etc.

dont forget that the air also helps keep the turbo spooled thur shifts, how much of a diffrence is there really everyone has a opinon. i just figure why waste that air were workin so hard to get in the system.

i can think of lots of thing other than a bolw through set up to spend my money on. if u really and i mean really want the pshhhhhh sound than go for it. i would ivest in parts than will lead to bigger hp gains. but thats jsut me.
