Ok guys here we go.. I have a 95 awd talon tsi.. I would like an estimated 450 awd h.p. i already have my set-up chosen..

Here are my mods:
Rebuilt 6 bolt with wiseco 8.5:1 pistons eagle rods
gsc s2 cams
holset hx35
water meth injection
im not sure of the exhaust manifold but its a cast manifold with a flange for the wastegate on it already
Magnus Street Manifold
wally 255lph pump
550cc injectors (going to upgrade to 1000cc)
Punishment racing Fmic
3 inch turbo back

My biggest problem is that i dont know what tool to use for tuning.. Also, since i have a 6bolt swap in a 2g is it best for me to use the 1g ecu or can i use a 95 eprom ecu with the 6 bolt swap... I have a laptop so i can use that to datalog and tuning if it is required.. Also, which datalogging software is the best?? And before i forget to mention the guy i bought my 95 tsi from, replaced the 95 eprom with a 96 non-eprom.. That is why i have to buy another eprom... Im also going to get a wideband to help with tuning... Here are my options..

Maft Pro: $399 would let me use map instead of maf. Will allow to vent to the atmosphere. Will be able to use it with my laptop. Has a built in datalogger. 12 points of tuning and 3 load tables Link: MAF Translator

Maft Gen 2:$ 249 The new version of the MAF Translator. Borrowing technology from the Translator Pro, the Gen 2 now has the ability to adjust fuel + or - 60% in 1/2% steps across 14 RPM bands in 3 different load areas. They also have the wideband tracking where you can set your targeted afr and it will adjust itself to automatically reach it. Im not sure if they have a datalogger. Full throttle has poor information about what it is capable of doing Link:
MAF Translator

Afc Neo and Datalogger: $350 16 points of tuning in +/- 50%... Link:APEXi Super AFC NEO Engine Management - Import Tuner Magazine

DsmLink v3: Sounds like the best of them all with incuded datalogging and tuning but wif its going to run me $800 + i might as well go to a standalone for a little more.. $600 + $200 eprom Link: v3summary [ECMTuning - wiki]

DsMap: Ive heard alot of good things about this program and its relatively cheap but i cant find alot of information about it, how easy/hard it is to tune etc... does it require a chip?? Link:http://ds-map.net/

I can do basic tuning and like to be in control of what im doing... What do you guys think???

For starters you will not make 450hp on 550cc injectors.
I would say go with dsmlink v2 or v3, either will do. I've also heard the afc neo doens't work so well with our cars.
95 eprom ecu is the way to go.

Dsmlink/2g ecu/bigger injectors than 550cc. I hope you just forgot to list a clutch. Stocker won't hold that, you'll need an ACT2600 or equivalent. You also may want to look into ARP head studs. And as always make sure all of the maintenance is up to date.

i said engine mods... im going to upgrade from my 550s. im just listing what i have now... this thread is about what i need to tune... not what other suporting mods i need... no disrespect....

I do not like chips so please do not reccomend them. i can do basic tuning and like to be in control of what im doing, not getting a chip based off of someone elses car.. What do you guys think???

Just get a chip burner or emulator. Tune with either tunerpro or dsmap. I don't see how spending 600 bucks on link ends up being an advantage. Spend less and do pretty much the same thing.

I am kinda in the same boat as you man, i have all the supporting mods just waitin on the fuel stuff an i wanted to know what tuning tool, i know to get an eprom it 200 an the link is around 600 shipped an i agree with you saying thats expensive. The link is so the way to go i think because its so user friendly from what i have seen i think there is pre programmed maps for you to run to untill you can get the ins an outs of it an it has a logger built in i believe. My friend has aem ems an its a great tool but it cuts so much of the stock engine metering out its like two sensors that you use with it an its over kill for 450 hp plus its alot and i watched him use it an if you dont have a clue what your doing it looks like a pain in the ass you have to tweak every little thing. I watched his car rip like a 11.5 an then come back around he accidentally hit a wrong button an added alot of fuel an took him like 20 mins to get it back to normal an get it to start LOL.

DsmLink v3: Sounds like the best of them all with incuded datalogging and tuning but wif its going to run me $800 + i might as well go to a standalone for a little more.. $600 + $200 eprom Link: v3summary [ECMTuning - wiki]

Forgot the $200 EPROM. Since you have a 95 talon, you should already have one. Just take off the kickpanels and take a look at the ECU. If it's an Eprom, you just saved yourself $200. So now Link is $600+socketing. Combine that with a wideband and a basic knowledge of tuning and you got yourself a nice setup.

I got my link for around 450 from a vendor on the forum and my eprom for 120 on ebay. So if you shop around you can find a good deal on the setup. I had a safc before link and I would never go back or change. The only trouble I've had with link is the stupid connection timed out thing. The tunability is great esp. if you do not have much experince like myself.

EDIT: I have v2 not v3 though. Bought it before v3 was out unfortunately.

I'd say link (as I've said in at least a dozen other threads). Yes, there may be cheaper options, but for the support and forums, link is well worth it. Plus, it is something you can easily tune yourself, whereas a lot of standalone systems need to at least be set up at a shop unless you really know what you're doing. And if you're in a bind with link, you can always just go grab a log, throw it up, and get a response pretty quickly.

Oh, well then that throws it back on. But my opinion is still the same. If you would like it for cheaper, then just find someone who is selling their old V2 setup. A lot of the times, they sell it as a package so you can get V2 with all the stuff you need AND an Eprom ECU for say...$500(±).

You can also eliminate DSmap since it's a 1g only thing.

So you're down to the MAFT Pro and ECMlink (and possibly a standalone). I really don't think there's a decision here :p

Lol.... well maft pro is $400 and dsmlink v3 will run me over $800.... Is it really worth the extra $400 for dsm link?? I can just upgrade to a Wolf 3d (AEM) stand-alone for $900 from a friend of mine.... Snowboarder714, I'm in westchester/Exton p.a. So if I decide to go 2 ecm link, mind giving me some pointers??

I can't tell you if it's worth the extra $400 since it'd be coming out of your pocket. I can tell you that you'll have WAY more support if you go ECMlink. I bet there's only a handful of people on here tuning with a MAFT Pro vs. those on DSMlink/ECMlink.

I currently have DSMlink v2 and will be upgrading to v3 come spring (no need to now since the car is stored). I have no problem giving pointers. I assume you're in Exton to go to UTI? If so, I may be in touch with you :sneaky:

What makes you assume that I'm in exton 4 u.t.I.?? Lol... I am though... are you going to be attending??

i have maf gen 2 with a custome eprom chip running 1250cc injectors and e85.I just made 455hp on a mustang dyno. I have no problems with the gen 2 very easy to use.

What is your set up because for 1250cc injectors and E85, I would have expected higher h.p. Numbers ( no disrespect ) unless it was a safe tune.... but does gen 2 allow you to use a laptop to datalog and make adjustments??

My profile is upto date. im nt done with the car. Im on a bw s259 on dsm turbine housing. Im swaping over to a t3 set up with the turbo. the .55 ar is choking the turbo up. Im going to the .70ar. A mustang dyno reads lower than a dyno jet, if I was on a Dyno jet the car would have made around 490ish at same boost level. Thats a 8% difference from dynos. There is alot left on the table still. Im only seeing around 65% idc. Here is the link to the thread I have going http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/turbo-system-tech/322896-bw-s259-dyno.html.. I like the Maft Gen 2. Its easy to use. Its like AFC x 10..

This is the route i would go! pick up an eprom and $50 for the socketing and burners run $30-100. Tunerpro is free as well. Sorry no dsmap for 2gs. Ostrich($175) with a laptop and tunerpro rt(free) will give you real time editing as well

Just having a certain size injector doesn't give you more hp. Read his profile, it says what he's got. You have to see the chart though because the peak hp number doesn't mean much. The MAFT Pro is the one you can hook a laptop to.

The ostrich emulator is amazing with TunerPro RT. I got one on ebay for about $100 and it's been great. I swap it between cars for tuning and I also have a Burn1 burner. I started with just the burner and used a chip extender to mount the chip outside the ecu for easy chip swapping.
