I have alldata and this forum for all the detailed stuff and I've done this once before. I've been going to a automotive career program for my last 2 years of high school and last year I worked on my brothers 97 gs which had a broken timing belt. I fixed the car and got it running. It broke down 2 weeks later. I know for a fact I set the pretension incorrectly at this point, but my teacher would like to confirm that there isn't anything that goes at the end of the hydrolic tensioner. The reason be is because the tensioners plunger or rod grinded down significantly which created slack which then broke the bolt to the tensioner pulley bracket destroying everything again. He says it's not exactly common for the tensioner to just go straight against the bracket with such little surface area. Can somebody confirm that this was probably just a pretension issue and that nothing goes between the bracket and tensioner.
