Need some options...

Did the head gasket on the girlfriends 97 Eagle Talon, NT 420a engine.
Reassembled most of the fun stuff. Tried to slap the timing belt tensioner back on and the lower bolt will tighten just fine. The upper bolt hole, however, looks like it has no threads left in it.

Not like they are stripped. but like they crumbled out... :banghead:

If I tap it to a bigger size bolt, that bolt will not fit through the belt tensioner slots. Drill out the slots? Will it still hold / have high risk of snapping?

Can I helicoil it? Will it hold the tension?

Should I JB weld it all up and just re-tap new threads? Will that hold?

Ideas?

i had the same problem when i changed my tensioner but it was the bottom bolt. a heil coil would work but i just but a standard grade 8 bolt in there to cut new threads been working for me. but the proper repair is the coil

Welp, Finally got around to the car again.
I looked at the coil.

The issue is that the hole in the block is just a little smaller than a 10m X 1.5 thread tap that I was looking at, after the threads collapsed. If I used the coil from that it is not small enough to let the original 8mm bolt tighten into it.

So, do I threat the block for 10mm and drill out the slot in the belt tensioner to accept the bolt or is there a product out there that will let me tap the 10mil size but thread in an 8mil bolt? Like a small reducing bushing or something?

Update;

I decided to tap the block to a 10mx1.25 thread and grind out the tensioner slots.
Works great so far!
