I'm getting no spark 420a. I rebuilt the head and redid the timing, it has brand new starter, alternator, crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor, new coil pack, spark plugs and wires with new ASD relay as well.

Power wire for camshaft and crankshaft wire is both 8.8v and the signal wire is around 3.5. I'm lost on why I'm not getting spark, please help!

Hello, sorry for the late reply I totally forgot about this thread.

What methods have you used to diagnose your ignition? I saw your new thread, but didn't have time to reply. You can narrow it down quickly if you know what to look for.

I learned so much about the 420a and actually inspired by you seeing your thousands of threads as I just started getting into the community, so to cut things short I rewired my ignition, put a new harness and ECU, for it to be a damn faulty RockAuto crank sensor LOL.

Anyways had my fun. I pulled the motor and have a forged internal block with BC cams n springs the whole 10 yards. Planning on going turbo with megasquirt. I just painted my bay and pressed in new...
make sure that the camshaft holes are pointing straight up, this will make sure that the timing is set correct on the top end, of course if the camgears are set to position it should all line up
I made sure it was in timing, but there should be spark still even it is out of timing im pretty sure

Check voltage, ground and signal to the coil pack
See this is where im stuck at if this is the issue i have a 1996 eclipse so it has the round pin connector i stick the probe in the 1 and 3 pin and nothing happens idk if its the connector itself or what. Should it show up a voltage when i stick the test light in a round pin connector?

I'd upgrade that to the facelift coil pack and pigtail, 2ga coil pack, camshaft and crankshaft are all garbage, that's why they're discontinued parts. I tried to keep my -95 ESi stock as possible but those 3 things had to go, just constant problems and dying on the road until I replaced them and no problems after that.

And once you've replaced all 3 of them to new 2gb parts, make sure you solder and put insulation socks on them and cover them with electric tape and preferably also with wire loom tubing

Okay thanks. I hope that's my problem because that's the last thing I can think of.

Is it even possible to buy a new 95/96 coil pack anymore? Dealerships don't carry them, and other parts distributors only seem to carry them with updated connectors.

No it's disconnected, but some stores might have it stocked (if unlucky), have heard couple occasions

That's probably some old stock they had, I'd go to nearest AutoZone and replace cam sensor, crank sensor and ignition module with pigtails.
Yea, I replaced the cam and crank already I'll definitely replace the ignition connector and coil and try it out.

I have a 96 eclipse with rebuilt head put everything together, have no spark, I swapped everything possible and now when swapping the ignition coil connector I tested the wires with key on and nothing traced it back to ECU wires looks fine.

Do I need a new ECU or what's the reason why I'm getting no power to the wires/ignition pack.

Test for continuity between the ECU connector and ignition coil connector. Also check for continuity between the crankshaft position sensor connector and ECU connector. Sometimes there is a damage wire or loose pin that you wouldn't catch from visual inspection. If everything tests good with those, it could be either a problem with the CPS or ECU.

Having poor ground connections could also cause a no spark issue, so make sure to check all of those.

another vote for this from me

I have changed about everything, camshaft and crankshaft sensors, ASD relay, all new ignition, new plugs, wire, and coil pack.

I have converted everything to 2gb on the connectors but nothing has worked. I tried a new ECU, that didn't work. I have checked continuity on my wires nothing abnormal. I redid timing as well. I am getting fuel just no spark and I'm not getting any codes either.

Only info I can provide is maybe ignition coil connector the signal wires produce no volts only middle pin produces 12v but there’s continuity in the wires so I don't know if its a faulty connector.

Please help this has me stuck for the past couple of months and I'm going insane.

The signal wire pulses so quickly that an average multimeter would not display a reading.

The stock ignition system is simple. Below I've uploaded pages from the FSM.

I would like to talk to you about the megasquirt process and whats a solid fuel setup. Your a legend thanks and Brian thanks for asking 🤙🏼

Unfortunately that isn't the first and likely won't be the last time I've heard of faulty crankshaft position sensors. I even purchased one myself. Nothing aftermarket matches the OE quality.

That is the first time I've been referred to as a legend here though, and I take it heart. Although I'm too humble to adopt the title, I appreciate the thought. But I did just realize that I've surpassed 5,000 posts. Oh, how time flies. Feel free to reach out in a private message and I'll help the best that I can. Or make a new thread, I'll probably find it and give input as soon as I can. Some information is better to be publicly available :thumb:

Hey man.. I know this is odd to posy here but I can't send a PM because I am limited to only 3 right now. I am ready to replace my Crankshaft Position Sensor on my 97GS 420a and was wondering if you have any suggestions before I get under there. Like, where exactly is it and what tools ok I need? Is it pretty basic or do I have to remove anything to get to it? I have a oem Sensor and also got the wiring and plug as well. I work on my own stuff most of the time so I shouldn't have a issue unless there is something odd about it I don't know. Do you have any pictures exactly where it's at? Sorry to hijack this post I'm just desperate to get this car running again. Thanks!

if you have any socials i can personally help its a pretty simple job I have my block out so I can take a picture of the exact location. one 10 mil bolt I believe and you wiggle it out. I would not recommend replacing the connector unless you know thats the problem as soldering or crimping the connectors underneath the car is a pain. are you on no spark or engine code popped?
