Forgive my newbie question on this but I've only paid attention to the turbo cars until now.

I recently got a 96 Eclipse na with a hole in the side of the block. So I bought a motor out of a Neon from Craigslist. I don't know what year it came out of, the guy told me it was from the late 90's but I don't know that for sure. I was tearing down the Neon motor and finally noticed the stud gurdle is part of the bottom of the block. I didn't know that they did that on these cars to I looked at the Eclipse motor that is still in the car and I can't see the line were the stud gurdle is. Also the Neon motor doesn't say 420a on it like the Eclipse one does.

I've read that they are suppose to be the same block except some oil holes depending on the year. But I think my Neon motor came out of the wrong year. It's a dohc motor if that makes a difference. Did I get the wrong motor?

Anyone? I'm mostly worried because it isn't stamped 420a on the side of the block and I figured it would be.

Are the neon motors suppose to say 420a on them? Cause mine doesn't. Since I don't know what year it came out of that is why I'm asking about it. And it's a 2.0.
