Is anyone running an eBay turbo on a 420a that work, lasts long, and is nice even though it was cheap?

I went through two ebay turbo's in 5k miles, i'll never buy one again.

They seem to do okay at lower boost levels that 420a guys with stock bottom ends run.

Ebay turbo's are junk..It's at least a 1 in 5 or even one in ten chance of getting a good one..

I have one right now It's got less than a thousand miles on it..But I'm sure it'll go soon..

If you're only pushing 8lbs, give or take, you'll be fine. You get what you pay for.

I hate suggesting ebay turbos but in your case you'll probably be fine. At such a low boost level they normally hold up for a while.

People who say ebay turbos are junk are wrong they are just pawning off their horror stories from when they got one and didnt have it balanced. They are just unbalanced turbos from the factory that made them for mass production and sales and since they arent they would go out quick. If you get one all you need to do is get it balanced and it will last as long as a name brand turbo. There are plenty of people running them. I personally know a guy that has an ebay 20g on his MR2. All he did was have the turbo balanced and hes running low 13s with it and not having one problem. But 9 times out of 10 you can find a used turbo on here for a little bit of nothing.

I pray you don't have kids. Ebay turbos are junk for more then just them "not being balanced". Turbines crack, shafts break, seals go out, and metal goes through your system. So far the only party i would put on my turbo setup would be the exhaust housing because you can really fsck up cast. MHI turbos can run 100k mile plus and still be in great shape, I dare you to try to get that kind of time on an ebay turbo.

I purchased a 12B turbo very cheap on ebay and was going to install it on my 420A but right now I still havn't made up my mind about what i am going to do.

The 12B will be fine and through all the searching I have done, I had came across people boosting 15PSI out of the turbo (not 420A but other engines) so low level boosting would be perfect for its application.

One of the issues i am facing is what manifold I will run for this turbo. It had a TD05 flange and the only manifolds I could find were T3/T4. Yes I can buy an Adapter but it would make the turbo pretty much stick into my radiator. If you are good with a welder then you could make your own manifold by just using some tubing and a TD05 flange.

Here is a couple of ones that may be worth it.

OMG, everyday I see a new thread that says "ebay" something in it.
Search people, find out what others have said.

IMO, I would not let an ebay turbo touch my car.

with that being said, I am sure you know my opinion.

Ebay is good for replacement parts and some used turbos but I don't know if I would trust a Ebay T3 for 99$

OP would come off better if he put a WTB thread for a good working 14B turbo and then made his own manifold.

Poor information.

An unbalanced turbo would never make boost from the moment it was installed. They have to balance them to a certain degree or they'd never sell a single unit. I'm sure they could be balanced better using a VSR, but there aren't many shops out there using this technology....and those who do have it probably are not going to waste their time strapping an eBay turbo on it.

That in mind, I point the finger at shitty materials used over anything else.
