Hello, I'm new to this forum and would like to say Hi. Now down to business, as you can see I own a eclipse GST 1997. When I bought the car the engine was knocking in the bottom end. We took apart the engine and the bearings had been worn through on the crank.. I think everyone refers to this as "Crank Walk". So I'm going to start fresh, I would like to get around 400 horse power out of this build. I was wondering what is needed to reach my goal. If I've posted this in the wrong place I apologies. I'm new to the tuner and forum scene.

Any information will help.

Thanks

The search button is your friend. With that said, do the simple things first, get the engine to complete running order before worrying about hp goals. Then start by adding an exhaust, intake (might be worth doing all hard IC piping when you do it), make sure you stay recirc'd, get yourself a good set of gauges for boost and a wideband, and continue on. A great resource for someone in your shoes is the tech articles available here. Good luck, you did find the best site for info, so use it, keep searching!

First off please do a search on crank walk. My Worst Nightmare:cry:
if you want to get anywhere get rid of that 7 bolt engine, everybody esle will tell you the same thing. Don't get me wrong, I think the 7 bolt engine is great, until it walks that is, but once that happens you might want to look into 6bolt engines.
Go from there.
Hope that helps!

Thanks, Well since the engine is apart, and I beleive what I'm seeing is " Crank Walk". I was thinking or buying a built short block. I just dont know what stage block I should start out with.

I did some searching and this engine does have Crank walk.

Your question is vauge there are so many answers for you but its what your looking for budget, and so forth. Search will help you a lot, get used to using it thats where the answers are to a majority of members questions.

At what point should I worry about upgrading the internals? Will a stock short block with stock internals hold up at 400 - 450 horse power?

I would say not to stock many can hold just to about over 300, did you look at the upgrade path yet on this site?

Yes I looked at one, but it didnt say much on internals.. could you post a link?

Everyone's got crankwalk...

What you have is not crankwalk. In fact I'd be willing to bet the guy trashing 7 bolts up top there didn't have it either. You have worn bearings. Happens to every car that is abused and does not see proper lubrication.

Step 1:

Have the block checked by a machine shop. If it is good go to step 2. If not find a good one cheap somewhere and then go to step 2.

Step 2:

Build and put your motor back together and get the car running, then think about performance.

Step 3:

Worry about getting to 250 hp before you worry about getting to 400 hp.

Step 4:

Follow the upgrade path in the tech section. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Dude the engine was starved for oil and you spun a bearing. Might I suggest going with a new block fitted with a 2.3 Stroker Kit or do what I did when I spun a bearing. I went with the 2.1 De-Stroked kit. awesome power in the upper RPM range and capable of 500 street-able HP. You will need serious supporting mods however its sweet when your out on the freeway and keep up if not pull away from V8's...and the look on thier face is priceless...Check it out...Try and stay away from Slow Boys. It took them 4 months to finally send out the right parts.

people need to stop knocking 7 bolts, had mine at 30psi plus at over 400whp with stock bottom till I just now built it. Crank walk is over rated. once machined and put in spec your good for an oem build with a.r.p hardware will be safe for over 400whp.
