I hate hearing about everyone recommending there exhaust which is on a 2nd gen when the person asking has a 1G. Thermal research sounds great ! But who offers it for 1G? Most 1G guys will recommend Apexi N1 hands down

A little search goes a long way...

I have a 3" Turbo-Back on my car and it throws a CEL Light. My Talon is a 96 which means I am OBDII. After 3 hours of driving with my Downpipe and no cat on it threw the code.

I am on the T-25 still and I only creep a little with my 3" Turbo-Back. I am at 15lbs and creep to about 17lbs and falls off. Only a few times I have spiked to about 20-24lbs.

I got a 96 GS-T with an Apexi dp/cat back (catless, of course). Had the dp for about a month and a half now with no code. Maybe my car's to f'd up to send a code. :dsm:

I have a stock O2 housing with some porting done and a 3" exhaust from there on back with a cat and 34mm flapper and my boost is just fine. It spikes to 13 in between the shift from 2nd-3rd(AT tranny) and then settles right back to 10.

Key words: o2 eliminator. If he uses the stock o2 housing, it WILL creep. Even with a ported 1G housing, it'll probably still creep. You'd need either an EVO o2 housing, o2 dump, or o2 elim. to get rid of creep on full catless 3". Speaking of catless, it's absolutely disturbing how many people here have no clue that only 2G cars have the rear o2 sensor/CEL issues

one doesn't always need 02 eliminator type 02 housings.... i have no issues with boost creep on 3 different dsm's at this time.
my gvr4 has full 3" and a mbc from dejon tool, 15 psi rock steady.
my girls talon has full 3", mbc from dejon tool and stock turbo, turbine housing, and 02 housing nothing ported and no boost creep at 17psi.
my talon has a 50 trim with a stock unported 02 housing, 18.5 psi, 3" dp and back, no creep, again with the dejon mbc.
why? i have no idea.
put the 3" pipes on there and see what happens. you might creep if you dn't have a boost controller other than the stock one. get a dejon mbc and set it and you should be fine.

Can someone please explain why installing a full 3" catless exhaust with stock o2 would cause creep or spikes? I thought creep was the result of the exhaust being too restrictive, like if you run a 16g on the stock o2 and exhaust. Gases don't escape through the wastegate fast enough because there's nowhere to go, so boost goes up. But if you're on the stock 14b or t25, how could installing a less restrictive exhaust cause creep? Doesn't make sense to me.

Exactly, you just nailed it on the head. With the new exhaust system, flow is much better than it was before, however, it out now outflows the wastegate tube in your 02 housing. With some porting of the wastegate it will be able to keep up with the flow of the rest of the exhaust, otherwise it is now considered a restriction..

Or some thing like that, just get a dejon mbc :thumb:

It wont lower it lower then what the spring is set at.

Certain MBC's like the dejon I'm guessing, have good designs and give a quick responsive single to the wastegate better then a shittier one, allowing the wastegate to open quick enough to stop a spike.

This is just my guess from what I know.

I'm thinkin I'll get my frist bit of porting experience, port the wastegate, and have at er with the 3".

You guys know any good deals on 3" DP's?

Thanks

I know a local guy to me is sellin 3 inch down pipes for 100 bucks out the door, pick up only. Probably more if he has to ship.........

They are a name brand but I can't remember wich one.

I don't get why people buy their DSMs, come here and any other board, and expect answers without searching. And on top of that, they say I did search but didn't find anything remotely close.

I have news for you. Just about everything you could want to find about tuning and modifing a DSM has been talked about, and posted on the net. When you asked about porting it tell us all that you have not read the vfaqs, which are the starting point to modding your DSM.

I am sorry to jump into the thread, but using the damn internet to its full potential.

Well, I've actually have the whole 1000AAQ in .doc form on my comp, edited with all the hyper links gone, I was bored what can I say.

And never did I once ask about how to port, I know that the info for that is out there, everywhere.

You might have been referring that to someone else who posted in this thread, but considering I started it, I'll take that it was towards me until you say differrent. I Don't like when people ask stupid questions and don't search, and I advocate putting them in there place. So I agree.

If you were reffereing to the hole topic of the post, well I did search, and yeh I did find things remotely close, but from them, I could not find a direct answer to my exact question, and by posting, I have found just that.

And I'm sorry but this is the only site I use for my DSM knowledge, besides for DSMtalk which is gone, and my local BCDSM board.

If you were refferring to the question about the DP's. I got a response right after the post, showing someone who knew of a nice deal, sometimes all good deals aren't bright and in your face, and how would he have known to tell me about that deal without me asking?

Now go ahead and search, take the 30 minutes to get to page 22 of thread, where my answer will be slightly touched apon, or grab the answer from another site, and shove it in my face. I don't know about anybody else, but If I need to know something, I search, read through the first 5 pages of threads, search again with different keywords, read those 5 pages, then post.

I am not trying to be rude, just replying to your comment, and letting you know I agree with you.

Thanks

so if youy have an o2 dump on internally gated turbo you cna completely eliminate boost creep/spike??? even on a 16g??? if so i might as well forget getting an external

ryan

No. It's not that simple, other things play into that as well. You might, you might not, but I'm guessin with a 16g, you will, but it stilll depends on other things. I'm on my way out, so I can not list them, but they've been covered in the thread already. Sorry

Wayne

so i should stick with getting an external wg and 3" o2 eliminator rnr exhaust??? i am going to put the wg on the o2 and have it dump under the car....

truly the most ideal way. If you are building an exhaust system, ne expense spared this is the way to go.

Just keep in mind there are people making 500hp on stock (ported) manifolds and o2 housings. Yes they work, but if you are particular about design and parts that go on your car you might be enclined to look for a 2.5/3 inch tubular o2 housing. Rerouting the o2 or dumping it does not make much/any difference in performance.

BTW I will post more info about the guy with the downpipes later today. I gotta find my reciepts and give him a call to see if he will honor the quotes he gave me last time I visited.

There are a bunch of options, but heres a little about the road I took.....

If you know (or know someone who knows) how to weld, you could get the pipes and build yer own and save some cash....

VRS sells piping kits (aluminized steel and SS) as well as pre-built exhausts in 2.5 and 3 inch (see links):

VRS Exhaust Turbo-back systems:
http://www.vrsexhaust.com/TURBO_BACK_KITS/MITSUBISHI_TB/mitsubishi_tb.html

VRS Exhaust DIY Tubing kits:
http://www.vrsexhaust.com/TUBING_KITS/MITSUBISHI_TK/mitsubishi_tk.html

They are all mandrel bent, and the kits come with all the bends you need, at the right angles, as well as all the flanges, gaskets, and hangers. Add a muffler, and vwalla! ALSO - the kits on the site are only for Cat-back. Call the guy to order the DP piping, which comes with flanges, gaskets, and reducer (3" - 2.5" - goes at end that hooks up to o2 housing). And lastly, the DP doesnt come with the flex section ($45 on ebay), so make sure you get one of those. GOOD LUCK!!

I don't think thats a deal at all, you can get complete 3 inch SS catbacks with muffler included on ebay for 290.

And if you know how to weld, you can get all the pipes and bends you need from jcwhitney for 100 bucks less.

I'm going the "make it myself" way, I dont see paying some of the prices that some places are asking for an exhaust.

Yeh, I've just priced mine out, lookin at around 350 (CAN) with muffler and dp, full 3" turbo back, catless. That's doing all the welding myself and buyin it all in bulk form. Dp's cost alot LOL :(.

Wayne

checkout exhaust depot.com $169 for 3" cat elim downpipe and $428 3" for catback and its all stainless. I have the dp and its a nice piece of work. I had to cut the flange off the dp b/c I have an ATR SS catback and the ATR is longer than other catbacks, it goes to the front end of the stock cat would sit and the ex. depot dp's length goes to the back end of the stock cat would sit, but the ATR is slip-fit anyway so the ex depot DP slid right in after it was cut.

actually jc whitney would be more expensive they want 47 bux for 3 ft of stainless 3'' and you need 12ft atleast for a 1g fwd i just measured mine off the car and all the piping from jc whitney alone will be 200 or more.... plus flanges, gaskets, hangers, and mounting hardware..... id say 350 for the diy downpipe and catback is cheaper.... and all you need is a peice of pipe for flex section which you dont need to have the flex just weld a peice of ss in there and a muffler you can get from rnr for 99 bux and your exhuast will sound just like a rnr exhaust system....

anyway since i am planning on using the diy (and just buying a muffler and welding a peice of ss to take place of the flex) i want to know since i am going to mount a external wg on the o2 if i can buy the o2 flanges gaskets mounting hardware and the 2 tial flanges needed to do that.... also what size tubing should i use to do the external wg and external dump??? 1.5''???

thanx ryan

:laser:

exhaust depot dont list a fwd down pipe on their site wil the awd one work on a fwd (talking 1g's here)

Sorry of the rant Wayne, it was not directed at you entirely, rather all the newbs in the DSM community that think they can buy up a car and slap crap on their car and get "X" accomplished without knowing anything or bothering to learn anything.

So no this was not aimed at you, just a rant after reading a bunch of threads
