3 in. Downpipe to ?

So i just got a megan racing 3 in. downpipe. "Would it be ok to just run the downpipe?". An maybe try to bolt a muffler on it or something. I am a cheap ass an dont wanna buy the cat back system.

You can try bolting one up. But you may need to fab. the downpipe to exhaust part. Certain downpipes won't fit certain exhaust

Just the downpipe will be loud and annoying as ####. I had just my 3" down pipe on, and it sounds maaaad horrible and loud. Gave me a headache.

Just get an Ebay downpipe back exhaust..and run it to your megan downpipe.

Yea there's some decent eBay catbacks, and they won't break the bank. My apexi n1 system isn't even stainless, yet my friends eBay one is. Just cause it's cheap, doesn't mean it doesn't work.

if i was a cheap ass I wouldnt even have an exhaust manifold. Just have the gasses running straight out the ports . That might cause some problems though.. I have seen someone on here do a side exist exhaust with the resonator bolted to the downpipe and a conservative muffler on the site. Looks cool but is illegal.

If this is a strictly a drag car, then you could prob get away with just a downpipe. If you drive it on the street, it will get very annoying, plus will prob smell like exhaust at stop lights.

i run 3'' into a glasspack and a turndown at the rear diff sounds awesome to me, some say it has a v8 rumble but i cant hear it.

Lol, running open downpipe will be very loud. You can do it, but i wouldn't be on the throttle for very long. You can be heard from miles away. Cops wont be very fond either.

I would just look into an ebay exhaust. I got the one from japan import shop. It was only about $200 and fit well. It also sounds good. It would be $200 well spent.

Get those exhaust gases from under your car. That's why the exhaust goes all the way back, and in most cases past the rear bumper. Not only would running just the downpipe be loud, annoying, and illegal just about everywhere, you'd have all that hot gas under your car. Makes for a warmer ride all the time. And the condensation will turn anything it can into rust in short order.

if you buy a 3in downpipe just spend a couple hundred more for a full exhaust after that and be done with it. like Lemley said...its money well spent

Well after running just the downpipe last night. I am lucky i didnt pass the local law enforcement. Its loud as F>. I like it !!! but they wont. So i am tryin to get my muffler bolted on to the down pipe.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Someone said something about the hot gases turning condensation to rust. I live in the northwest an there is always moisture in the air so can someone elaborate on how exhaust can cause rust?????

If I was you I would just buy an ebay exhaust for cheap. I got a megan 3 inch downpipe to a srs catback(ebay) and it sounds pretty good. It was also cheap too!!!!!

Don't run just a down pipe. It's annoying and loud. Get a honda civic and do it to that, people are used to it.

Get a big enough turbo and you won't even need a muffler. I imagine with the t-25 (as well as with my 14b) it just isn't big enough to quiet it down enough to a point of being able to stand it.

And I fit a pretty big muffler under there no problems, duel chamber, 3"inlet 3" outlet. All I had to do was remove the heatshields where the cat use to be.

+1 on the ebay exhaust idea. You will eventually get sick of just having a downpipe. The SRS is a good N1 style exhaust, fits good, doesn't neck down anywhere, is full T-304 stainless steel, and only costs $250 shipped.
