I know this is a real newb question, but I'm not 100% sure of the answer. If I buy a high flow 3 inch downpipe, will I have to change my entire exhaust to 3 inch? None of the muffler shops around me are wanting to take on the job of 3 inch. They will only go 2.5. Not sure why. Also, I just don't have the cash to do it right now. thanks

Wish I did live there. The snow is getting so deep here my car is starting to drag bottom. And thats on the roads. Front wheel DSM's aren't made for snow. That's for sure.

If you get a 3in downpipe you won't be able to run your stock exhaust if that's what you're asking. As far as the locals not wanting to go more than 2 1/2in that's probably because they are going to bend it (make to fit) and they are not confident that they can fit the 3in without any issues such as rubbing or banging on anything. So you could go with the 3in downpipe and have them do a cheap 2 1/2in from there back and you could upgrade to full three inch later. Or you could save your money and do it right the first time. Or you could just go with a 2 1/2 downpipe and exhaust. Even if people don't want to believe it you can still make some good power on a 2 1/2in exhaust. It's just up to you and what your goals are or will be in the future.
