3 Gauge Radio Bezel

How about making/using this?

It looks clean and costs ~10$.

Someone creative could use this as a backing to temporarily (or even permanently) mold the bezel into the radio pocket. Fiberglass over it, a little sanding, a little paint, maybe round off the sharp edges and voila, you have a functional piece that looks like it belongs for half the cost.

I'm not bashing on your piece, glowrider. It looks very clean and well made. I'm just saying in my opinion, it's a bit pricey.

I was realizing how close my had gets to my radio area when shifting and its really close. So I was wondering if you ever thought about making a triple or double setup that is concave and puts the gauges up under the radio a little more?

To black Widow: correct, but you forget, time isnt free. Like in several posts above, there are many factors that go into the pricing, Any one who makes a product would understand the pricing, and the cost of producing more then just one of these. the Idea is to reduce the 2 week turn around to 3-5 days, which i have done, but that takes money. There is time in the Design, and flow. It not like I threw a bunch of things together and called it a Day. Another aspect is Skill. Not everyone can visualize what they want/need, and make it happen. so unless your time is worth 5$ and hour + materials, then .. no , you really cant make this pod Cheaper.. I don't know of any place where you can buy the materials used by the ounce. There is also the aspect of knowledge, sure you could glass that metal in you plastic part, but with in a few weeks to months, it will crack, mine wont. I know your not bashing, but dont compare things that aren't comparable.. You could have posted up toilet paper rolls , and said they are free, but with some time you can make them like my pod... The key here is how much is your time worth.. do you wanna spend your weekend making this?

And OP, no i don't. Honestly there's really no need or market for a concave one, there is barely a market for this one (b/c people dont like pay for custom and uniqueness ). The pods dont stick out very far at all, the end one stick out ~1.5".. so you have to have very bog hands for it to interfere..Plus i dot remember the last time i was racing and used 5th..

^ Sir Im sure you do great work and spend time on your products. Im not hating on you. But these are 17 year old sports cars, we want our most to be relativily cheap. I dont know how your business is going, but my guess with how dsmers are and how high your prices are, your not making bank...

This is why the DSM is going to be dead within 10 years. People like ExtremePSI, STM, SBR, and all the other big names will stop carrying quality brand name parts because people would rather cheap out and buy some no name piece of shit to throw in their car.

Hey everyone, if you want to buy one of glowryder's products, PM him. This thread should not look like a thread out of the Vendor forum. Freelancers should be posting about products they sell in the classifieds only, not here in the public forums. That's a perk reserved for Supporting Vendors only. Pricing, availability, etc, is not to be posted here in the public forums by anyone but a Supporting Vendor. It should be kept in PMs.

Thanks guys.

And for all those who are balking at the high price of a custom fabricated piece - get used to those prices, because once all the vendors stop making parts for us because DSMers are buying the cheap ebay knock-off version of every part made, all that will be available to us is the high priced custom fabricated option. The ebay knock-off retailers won't have any more parts to copy eventually. No parts available on the market means we'll have to pay people to build it custom. It's a reality in other car markets and will be in ours if DSMers don't change their buying habits a little. ;)

Speak for yourself. Quality parts are worth every penny. I for one have no problem paying extra to get a quality part. Maybe if people stopped half assing DSM builds the cars would last longer and not break every couple of weeks.

Thanks Luda, Please note I did not start this discussion, nor listed prices, i defended my product (that may be a vendor section thing, i apologize) but I just want it noted that i tried to direct people to the freelancer section, and not address business in this post. Feel free to lock it up.

Truth. Like Luda said If your interested, you know where i Am! ; )

I do not half ass my car, I just know what to look for while on a budget. I have an a-pillar pod which i got for 30 bucks and it looks clean. You can go ahead and pay out the ass for a GAUGE HOLDER. Guarantee my interior is far cleaner then yours.

hahaha, Ok. You got a part, that you have to either Glue on, or bolt to another.. Ive had those before, sometimes you get one that fits , some times not.. with mine, you get 1 part, fits and mounts like stock.. it is still the stock part. Its modified the right way, not just layed on top of an OEM part, that you have to hack the back of to get the gauge wires out. Plus , like others have said, the price of Quality, And being different are worth more to others then you.. Which is fine, my products are not for ballers on a budget. they are for people who take their car extremely seriously, and pay to get the look and feel they want, not just accept whats out there..key work here is Custom and Unique.. Tripple A pod pillar is not custom. It is in fact played out. ; )
Consider how thin and cheap yours is... and keep in mind, those used to go for 80+... the demand is low now, and they can afford to knock their price down, on the fact that its cheap to produce, and common. Theres nothing wrong with you A- Pillar, your using it as a GAUGE HOLDER, (im not sure what you meant by that...). Mine is nicer, and it just so happens that again, the theme here is pay to Play. No one will ohhh and ahh at your part, the will at mine because its different an innovative.. That's the name of this game.. Saving cash is nice, it affords us other things, like painting our car that has clear coat cancer...; )

Just wow, not even sure where to start on this :/.

A. I seriously doubt your interior is half as "clean" as mine :).
B. If you all only want to spend $10 on something that looks nice for a "17 year old" sports car then I'm guessing all the 69 Camaro owners can spend what, $2.50 for the same thing .

These are real sports cars for true enthusiasts and should be taken care of. I'm not saying that you have to have a lot of money and only give your kids half meals so you can afford high end parts but you should appreciate it. If you were able to get whatever you wanted for your car you'd still buy the cheap parts right??? NOPE!

And like Luda said, keep nickel and diming these vendors and see what happens when no one makes parts for these. See what you'll pay then for lower quality parts.

^JMiller: I have made a concave 2 gauge single din holder for my car. I am by far one of the least creative people and dont have a lot of skills with fabing, but for a first attempt, and knowing I can put the car back to the way it was, it turned out really well in my opinion. I have my Oil pressure gauge (Left side) and Oil temp gauge (Right side) installed and they are pretty visible considering the location. I would be glad to share how and what I did with you if you are interested, just send me a pm.

Back to the original thread, I orignally spoke with Glowryder who was very helpful and willing to work with me on my project but unfortunately I was unable to convey to him what I was looking for so I took a chance and made one myself. Glowryder was a good freelance vendor to work with in terms of talking ideas and how it might turn out. I can see why such a nice piece would cost more then the molded A-pillar pods people have, keep up the good work/support Glowryder!

Most definitely. It's custom and as such made for a few diehard enthusiast who like innovative design mixed in with good craftsmanship. Totally agree with all that's been said on going cheap. One day vendors won't see it viable to continue making parts for us

Budget is relative term, your budget might be tiny compare to someone else budget.

You pay for what you get, hell that A pillar might be all you need but for some of use we like to avoid being conspicuous and on top of that we like real carbon fiber for the weight saving qualities or just for the looks :p. It all depends on what you want and what you need. Don't bag on the price for a custom piece. This is not mass produced product and you shouldn't expect 30 bucks for it. I'm just glad we still have supporting vendors and freelancers willing to offer their services.

And on topic, it's a nice looking piece but I prefer something more eye level.

A. I wasnt talking to you, but im sure my interior would give you a run for your money...

B. Thats a classic sought after american muscle car. Your comparing that to a dsm?? Your joking right?

Im sorry to glow that you think im attacking your product. Im not, im just saying why would anyone in their right mind spend 110 plus shipping on something that holds a gauge. When I can find other pods for way less then half the price. I understand the custom thing is cool and all, but too me my 14 year old dsm, its about function first.

I understand function over form, and im on that train. But eventually, you get great function, and need the form to compliment the function fully to have a well rounded built car. Sure its a classic, but its not that sought after any more.. and lets face, there not much you can do to one, that hasn't been done before. I respect a good build, but to me, that scene is played out. To each their own.

Sought after by whom? Enthusiasts? That's my point exactly, this is one of the largest car forums I've ever seen for a reason. There are a lot of us, but at the rate we're going these cars will just fade away. Think about this, why is the supra still around and it will never fade away? Maybe because they are willing to spend the money and not jerry-rig out their cars.

And thinking that the cheap parts will "save you money" is exactly what causes us to spend 30k on a 10k build. You end up buying parts 3-4 times (I know this from experience LOL).

I'd love to see any one of you guys saying how its overpriced to make anything even close to that. Please show me what you have ROFL!

Using that logic, why would anyone buy Sparco or Recaro seats when you can find cheapies from Summit Racing for half the price? Why buy a top mount exhaust manifold, or a race fmic, or wheels that are more expensive than the damn DSM? Why would anyone buy any aftermarket part available for just about any newer BMW?

Because this is an obsession of ours. We're car guys and we do things that don't make financial sense. It's all a waste of money in the end (most of the time). Modding cars is a losing proposition in the first place. You can't judge someone because they choose to spend $110 on a gauge pod just because you can find a solution you're happy with for half the price. Different strokes for different folks, and that's not really the point we're all trying to make here.

The whole point is, let's do what we can to make sure good vendors continue to make quality parts for these cars for years to come by giving our business to them as much as we can, and limit what money we spend with the ebay knock-off retailers that take business away from the vendors who supply them with their knock-off design plans. Fair enough?

I didn't want to say that this 10$ piece of metal is an alternative and everyone should buy it. Sorry for that.

glowryder: Could you show us some pics of your 3 gauge radio bezel from distance or a full interior shot?
