I've got a huge problem. It's a idle and while driving. My dsm link say I have 3.2 at 2100rpm and above. My homeboy and I check the balanced shaft, removed the plug while running and spark plug. My wideband reads 14.7 at idle and same while driving . Any of you guys can help ?

Check your sensor as Brian suggested. If it reads a constant value through a range of RPM chances are that the sensor is bad. Also make sure when/if you put a new sensor in that you don't over-torque it or you will have a retarded amount of phantom knock. I do 1 half turn past hand tight on my knock sensors but I think the spec is 16 ft/lbs.

Is it possible to change the knock sensor on a 1g without pulling the head or engine?

Yes remove the two starter bolts, unhook the starter leads, and let the starter rest on the rear k-member. Remove the battery and TB elbow/UICP. Stick your arm in the hole you made and "feel" it out :thumb:

On the ALS/Knock tab there is knock sensor control, What is yours set at ? Set it to 2500 rpm and 50 % Tps to eliminate possible phantom knock as Brian was saying. Check you knock sensor to be in good condition and not over torqud like the guys are saying. See if all this. If you still have that mch knock on idle and partial cruise, post up a log we can check out.

3.2 above 2100.. sounds a lot like a bad knock sensor. It reads that constantly, and due to ECMlinks phantom knock supression, it doesn't show the knock sensors 3.2 counts unless you go above the rpm knock supression threshold, which I am betting is currently set to 2100 rpm on your ecu.

Have you ever looked at the DTC tab in link? If so, you would've seen you have one - Knock sensor 1 circuit malfunction. This is seen in the warren1.elg and -01.elg logs.

Check to make sure it's plugged in and that the wires have continuity back to the ECU. If that all checks out and there's no obvious black goo, next step would be to replace it.

3.2 counts of knock is a sign your sensor is unplugged, the wires have an issue sending a signal back to the ECU, or the sensor is bad. As you can see, it's only happening above the knock sensor settings you defined - anything below that, the ECU is ignoring.

Well, let me bring this thread back. I found there is something wrong with my knock sensor last night, and it should be the "black goo" that boost97gst said above. My car still works fine, nothing different. I think the knock sensor may not go bad immediately even if it started to leak the "black goo".

The black goo doesn't immediately mean it's bad. If you are having knock sensor issues and there is black goo it's indicative of problems.

If there is black goo coming out of it there will be issues upcoming.
