hey, I'm new but read up a lot on dsmtuners. I'm looking at this white 91 talon awd, with a new motor with 26k miles, kenetic headgasket ( never heard of it), arp head studs, new front struts, battery, alternator, belts. Only problem he said is that 2nd gear doesn't go in all the way sometimes. It'll pretend to go in but when clutch is let out it'll grind, he said he put a new oem clutch, but problem persist. Coming from Honda's (I know :p ) it seems like a bent shift fork or maybe shift linkage problem. I had that problem in my Si and it was just bad shifter bushings. Anyway he is willing to sell for $3800 as is, and a couple of more ($4300 or so, not sure) fixed? Is rebuilding a tranny worth it, or should I let him fix it? Is this problem normal on 1gens?
Also he has mods not installed, including Turboback, boost gauge, MBC and blowoff valve that he'll include in purchase.

thanks

Mine did the same thing. It ended up being my synchro was completely gone. It would grind slightly and feel like it went in but it wouldn't. I came from Honda's before DSM too. If your are planning to get a rebuild get a Shep tranny. I learned this by 2 normal rebuilds, plus a normal rebuild from Shep isn't to expensive and he sometimes throws in a little bit of extras so check that out. Also one tip, Honda trannys are a lot stronger than our because they made these trannys very cramped. So don't go around slamming your gears like you did to your si. Be good to the tranny and the tranny will be good to you. Good luck :thumb:

LOL, thanks for the info, I won't slam. Now time to conteplate if I should go ahead and rebuild it by shep, or look for another one. Would it be better to let him fix it with oem parts?

Yea he also does a normal rebuild but i think he will includes a double syncho for a little more. I would go with that since its usually second that goes bad
