1st gear to 2nd gear

hey guys i have a 95 gsx and as you all prly know 1st to 2nd is a very quick shift. im having trouble hitting it just right. i swapped out my shifter for a b&m short throw and put it on 50% reduction and am still having problems can neone give me some tips on hitting 1st to 2nd the best. thanks!

Are you having mechanical problems? Or do you just need to shift quicker?

im not exactly sure i guess my thought was that im just not used to shifting so quickly cuz im used to N/A cars... and 1st is so quick i only have trouble between 1st and 2nd. it kind of sticks between 1st and second but to my knowledge of drivinga 5spd as i have many it doesnt seem like a mechanical problem.

for some reason 1st to 2nd kicks my a$$ too... could it be bad syncros? even when I'm not racing it's still a tough shift, and the few people who have driven my car have commented on it.

I just got a laser a couple of months ago and when I shifted from 1st to 2nd it wasnt very smooth compared to other 5 spds that I have drove. Now that I have put some miles on it I have gotten used to it. So maybe you just need some more practice w/ it, I did.

NLTS (no lift to shift) is really helpful on the 1-2 shift. It uses the clutch pedal sensor and the rev limiter to hold RPMs at any # you want so you don't have to lift your foot off the pedal during shifts. Several engine management systems have this. DSMlink works well for me.
