at least you got it painted, i know someone driving around for almost a year without painting theirs yet

Yea right man...I was driving around for like 3 days and I almost killed myself.

After doing some research on converting my talon rear to an eclipse, I found out that a lot of guys went with L brackets to hold up the rear bumper and close that gap. I’m not sure if anyone has done this before but I wanted to use the existing brackets to hold up my bumper. This method is more time consuming and harder than the L bracket method, but I’m a lot happier with the end result. The trick was getting the brackets off and keeping them in tact so that I could reuse them. If you notice, the brackets aren’t really welded on. Where the bracket meets the body, you will find several small circular indentations about the size of a pencil eraser, that is where the bracket is fused to the car. They use a method called cold fusion to bond the bracket to the body of the car. You have to look close to see the fused spots. To remove the brackets you have to take a drill to these fused spots, being careful not to drill completely through the body of the car. While you are drilling out a fused spot, you will hear a snap indicating the bond has been broken. If not you can gently wedge a flathead screwdriver between the bracket and body and work it loose. Again, being real careful to keep the bracket in tact. Once the brackets were off, I used sheet metal screws to test and fit it to it’s final location. Pending on your tools and experience you can stop here and put your bumper back on. I went ahead and tack welded in the spots where the old fusion spots were. Here are a couple pictures:

Cold fusion is combining two hydrogen atoms to form a helium atom at temperature lower than those found in the sun, particularly at something sub 500f.

I think you mean spotwelding and spotwelds... :thumb:

Anyone know if my existing 95-96 fog light harnesses will hook up to my new 97-99 fog lights with no problem? thanks

Back form the dead.....Im woundering the same thing, Ill look at 2gnt.com to see if i can find something.

I have never heard of the L brackets. From my understanding, the bumper bolts right up.

the talon bumper sits diffrent then the eclipse. I was told i need these "L" brakets for the install, but when I was told, they did't show where/what/how it was done.

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141669

go all the way down on the link,

If you bolt the sides of the bumper first, you will see where to put the L brackets. Mock up the eclipse center taillight, and then mark on the body of the car where the bottom of the light would meet the bumper. Then just look at where the bumper's holes are, and drill new holes for the L brackets. Space the brackets out accordingly. Hope this helps.

you can do that or fab it up like i did. i took long bolts with a bunch of washers and used the stock talon brackets. i worked just fine a little difficult to do by yourself but that car later hit a semi on the highway and the bumper stayed on, it was about the only thing left attached. :thumb:

I got the center braket off the car, and got the holes drilled in the braket, its just getting it lined up. Now i have the rear tails that should't be a problem. But the corner brakets look like to be a pitta to get off to do the same. or if i do the center will only, will it sag? I hope to have the rear on and done this weekend, my trans comes next week. Any helpers ROFL

On the 95-96 dsm side skirts can you keep the one piece that goes on the door? And just get the new side skirts and caps? I have the side skirts and caps but no door panel piece. That small strip on the door.

you can, its an option of your own, I have the 95 door caps on with my 97 skirts, looks ok, but im going to get the 97 door caps. Once my 95 skirts/caps sells. see below

I'm about to FINALLY get my car back ( :rocks: ) and I'm going to put on a 2gb front bumper while its getting worked on. I would first like to know what people think I should do about the black lip at the top of the big opening of the bumper. I've seen people cut it off, some paint it the same color as the rest of the bumper, but most of the time I just see it left black. I'm getting a bumper that is coming primered black, and the bumper is going to be red. I think I like the "black lip" look, so should I leave it primered black, or should I paint it so it's a nice glossy black? Also, I need to fill in the fog light holes and I need to know exactly what it takes to fill them. Is it two seperate parts per fog light (I.E. fog lights and fog light covers)? In that case does it look ok to just put on the fog light covers?

I like the black lip too, if you want it paint it black, don't leave it primered. The fog lights I do believe are two peices each, i'm sure it would look ok with just the black frames for them though. They might come together though. Not sure  Do you have the new headlights for it yet too?

I'm in the process of waiting for a good deal on some 97-99 headlights to come up in the classifieds section... Does anyone have pictures of (preferably on a red car but beggars can't be choosers, I guess) that lip being painted black? Or am I just stupid and does it come from the factory painted black? It looks to me like the lip is always a dull black, so I would like to see if it looks ok glossy.

OMG thats gorgeous above. I love how he used the 97-99 bumper but kept the two tone paint job. Ive never seen anything like that before. Wow I'm in shock. thats one of the sexiest dsms Ive put my eyes on.

anyways I would leave the lip black. have the lip painted with a flat black and a flat primer. then have the rest of the bumper painted red. I think that would look best. you can buy the inserst for the fog lights on ebay.

To the original poster, incase you were wondering he doesn't have anything in the foglight section. So that's what it would look like :thumb:. Not too bad eh? Maybe that money can go to something else. Either way, the 2gB conversion is always nice.
