2g With Infinity Systems & Those Pesky Dash Tweets [Merged 11-7] tweeters

that is pretty damn cool. I've been needing to do that since I first removed my stock stereo. What gauge wire did you use?

Is it a pain in the ass ot remove the speakers? looks like it.

i had some 18g laying around from wiring up some plugs. They are easy, i used my pocket knife, id you that or a long flat head screw driver, just find a nice corner to get under and pop, off they come. And when checking the -/+ you well hear a diffrence when you find the right combo, as i said above the white wire goes to the big plug on the speaker. Good Luck :talon: :dsm: :thumb:

this is good info, just remember you don't have any xover on them in this manner, maybe use a bassblocker?

just remember the tweeter is 12 ohm so you need one that id 3x higher in frequency on a 4 ohm speaker to get the right xover point.

even with a standard xover (too low) mine are about finished after about a year...

I think I'll just put a nice 4ohm soft dome in the basket when they finally blow.

I have an aftermarket deck in my car. Does that mean mine arent working up front? I thought with the correct harness the fronts still worked and were just being powered by the deck and not the amp, even tho the amp is still in place.

nope there not working, if you took out the stock deck and put in an affter market and disconnected the amp under your passager seat, the front dash speakers are not working.

I got around to trying that today, however, I see no black connector......Where excatly did you find yours? It may just be a 95-96 thing.

I'm planning to replace my stock head unit and i want to get rid of the stock amp and just use the built in amp in the aftermarket stereo. So you guys are saying that only the front dash tweeters don't work when I get rid of the stock amp or all the speakers don't work including the ones in the doors and the ones in the rear? And finally do the black wire exist in 97-99 cars or just 95-96?

hey

just wondering if anyone knew if an infinity cd player will fit in a 97 gs. right now i have a stock deck ( tape ) and it doesnt have a brand anywhere on it. i also have a 10 disc cd changer thats rf modulated, and it wont play burnt cds :thumbdown . ive seen a few stock infinity cd decks in the classifieds and was wondering if they would fit in my car? if so, i guess ill need the amp too? thanx

if your putting a stock cd player in, you should be fine, if your getting an aftermarket deck, you will need a mitsubishi wire harness. When you remove the stock amp (black box) under the passager seat the front dash speakers stop working. What i found is a stock black connector in my 95, dont know if the 97+ have these, what it was is that it was wired up to the stock factory harness, as where the white one was wired to the Amp plug under the seat. I dont know if this is true for all 2g's, but i know its on mine. As for the wiring diagram i have what is in my book, other then that, i have no clue  except for what i have done my self, digging threw that rats nest.

I tried to upload my pdf scan of the page and was too big, if you need it, Email me and I'll send it out to you.

If you rip the wires out of the connector for the amp, out of the wires that come out of the right side of the connector (as your looking down at it on the floor) there is a set of white and black ones with blue and red stripes, these are the positive and negatives to the front and rear speakers, mind you, the front speaker wires run the doors and the dash, apparently in parallel.
Put a AA battery across the wires and chirp it to make sure youve got the right line for the right channel on the amp, i dont remember wich is wich.
Somebody had done such a hack job wiring up the old system i ripped the whole thing out and ran new stuff, couldnt figure out the friggin birds nest the factory threw in there

I just spliced in a nice old 35w pioneer amp I had.... and of course blew the tweeters after a month. I can show you how I connected the amp if someone wants to email me and ask for it

here is a picture of how i ran the wires, pritty simple but blunt. and the picture of the deck i have, Linkin Park, Somewhere I belong.. love that song :thumb:

dude i got that same deck..its pretty tits isnt it

hey i just did almost the same thing. i had a set of components up front, and the tweeters that i had got ripped off. so i hooked up the old tweets to my component set and it sounds almost the same but it crackles when its up above 30 on my system. this weekent though i might do away with the amp and totally rewire the whole car system straight through the head unit to the speakers, no amp. i hope itll sound better.

no i plugged in my old tweets to my component sets amp/crossovers. the white plug they are talking about is still unused. though i might try to find this black plug and see how that goes.

I was putting in a stereo in my buddies 97 gsx, his didnt have the black plug like my 95gst did. It may be that they only used both in the older models and got rid of it in the newer ones.

big big POS tweeter, just mod the OEM speaker/bracket/basket to accept the whole tweeter from the component set or a 1" silk dome or other soft dome tweeter (JBLs are very nice and not radically expensive)

Someone asked about replacement tweeters. I havent found anything good to fill up the holes either. I bought some cheap replacements off of ebay that I blew within 2 weeks. Anyone find something better??

also...my car is a 95 and I did have both the black and white harness.
