How wouldnt they look the same if you did what i said to do? If the grill cover is overtop, you wouldnt even know the difference except it would sound 10 times better IMO.

sorry chris i overlooked ur thread i wasnt aware that u could take off the covers until a lil bit ago..i went to audio jam n just got back...the guy tried bullshittin me sayin its gonna cost a fortune cus my "dash has to come out" i was like naaaaaaaa definitely doesnt n he looked at his friend n asked him and his friend was like no they just pop out ....face started turnin red...n was like what year do u have i was like 95 and he was like oh yea those just pop out...so i said how much he said jl kickers with installation would be 130 or something like that....and i said how much for door speakers he was like well if u get them too u might as well get component set i said how much he was like installation n set would be close to 300 for JL's...what should i do ? thanks

Like i said previously, grab a component set that you want (6 1/2 speakers, crossovers and tweeters). Put the door speakers in and mount the crossover in the door. Run the tweeter wire and make a small metal bracket for the tweeters (very simple once you take a look at how the 3" stockers are set up). Put the tweeters in the bracket, aim them towards your windshield, pop the stock grill cover back on and enjoy!

If you cant do this yourself, get somewhere like best buy to do it. They wont charge you an arm and a leg for it like an audio place will.

I say what's most needed is someone to figure out the damned wiring. My '95's weren't hooked up to the amp wiring, they had another set of wires going to them with the amp wires in a separate connector tied to the harness they were connected to. And I've found nothing about it so far, after a _lot_ of Googling.

Not much to make of on the mechanics side, they just pry out with a rag-covered screwdriver. Still, there's not an illustrated procedure yet, so have at it.

What I came across. Is that there is 2 plugs that the tweet can hook up to. The white one which was originally hooked up to was to the stock amp. And the black on which isnt. I used the black on to get power to the tweeters after the install of an aftermarket headunit. I am not sure if this is the same with all yrs. I do have a 95 though. Good luck

It wouldn't hurt. I know alot of people have been saying that their tweets don't work with aftermarket installs.

Let me get this straight. That extra harness, did you install that or is it OE?

That picture is my install. I just made a pigtail just as you see to plug into the "black" plug rather than the white one. After doing that they work fine without any problems. That extra black plug was there, I didnt rerun anywires, I believe that is what you asked.

The black plug is there? Where? Are the tweets working with an aftermarket headunit? It looks like all you did was splice into the wire the white harness is attached to and add the black harness. How would that change anything? That's just a different way of connecting the tweet to the oe speaker wire.

I was having the same problem and I just started from scratch. I located front L&R door speakers and rear L&R speakers by using a battery (in case you don't know, as long as you have a good idea which are your speaker wires, you can take 1 set, touch one to one terminal, and the other the the other end of the battery and the speaker will pop).

So, from a previous OE stereo, I knew which wires were acc, power, power antennae and so on.

For dash tweeters, I ran my own wire from the tweeter to the back of the deck and had each one shared with the respective door speaker. So, in the front L part of the deck I had the +/- of both the tweeter and the door speakter, same for the R side.

This may be wrong, or may not have made any sense. Sorry.

The point is, it may be easier to just run new wire from the tweeters to the back of you deck.

You hae to pull the wire out a bit to see the plug if it is there. Like I said it may not be there for you. I have a 95, they may have removed it after that I am not sure. I didnt splice into anything. I made a pigtail with 2 female and male connectors. Female went onto the speaks, male went into the black plug. If you have any questions or want more pics email me I'll gladly try to help you out.

My Talon came with the "premium" Infinity, a fairly nice two-part radio/cassette and single-CD player, the CD player that has its own readout, and no amp. Nice stuff, except the shifter blocked the readout and I have use for a car clock. So I got the double-din Infinity radio/CD with the 3-knob "equalizer" and put a ten CD changer in the trunklet, and put in the Infinity amp under the seat. No sound from the dash speakers. When I pulled them, they had the black plugs hooked up, and I guess those come straight from the wiring on the head unit (not mentioned in any wiring diagrams I've found). They have black wires with colored tracers. The amp feeds the dash speakers directly, through the white plug, and has colored wires.
Car stereo stuff gets weird, and the worst part is that there's shit-all available in documentation.

Ok, dont know if this has been found out, but i found it today(night), i was told that when the stock amp is removed that the dash speakers dont work. Well that is correct. In order for them to work you have to Buy this cable to run under your seat into your deck plug. Well I dont think so. I dont know if this is like this on all cars but any ways, I found this and took some pictures.

I was shining a flash light around and found another plug "Black" im like WTF, then looked closer and was like NO F***ING way!!

So i took some wires and pushed them in and taped them to the speaker and BAM!! alsome sound!!! so i did some volt meter test, the White wire goes to the Big connector on the speaker and the small one to the black cable and i have some radio shack connectors

I did the same thing to my car about 6 months ago. Its very easy to bypass the amp to get the stock speakers to work. You just have to make a new wire to run to the other plug. My new problem is i blew the dash speakers and i can't find a good fitting replacement.

yeah, it was easy just did't know if any one out there has done this. But yeah finding good replacements is't easy, i haven't looked yet, but if i find some ill let ya know.

Thanks for the tip, but let me clarify something; does the other end of the black connector wire hang near the CD deck area? I'm assuming that you traced this black connector wire to this area and then you just had to splice it into your aftermarket deck, right?

the wires from the black plug are all ready ran to the factory harness, I did't have to splice any where. I was going to but found the plugs and pluged the speaker into one. I'll take another picture today of what the speaker looks like wired up. but as for runing new wire to the factory harness , no need

This is a great mod! I did it today in about 15 minutes and the differnce in sounds is like night and day. Saved me from either buying a cross-over or a replacement. Is there a tech article on this?

Yeah the black plug is for the cars with out the amp, i traced them down there wired into the factory harness with the fronts, with the amp there wired by them selfs, so if you want to wire up your fronts to an diffrent amp, have to pull the passager seat out and find what ones are the fronts and cut and soder there.
