Hey all, so I'll give you the details on my car:
1995 Eagle Talon TSI AWD
6bolt Swap
Black top Cas
ECMLink V3
Stock injectors, stock fuel pump, fuel pump re-wire, 14b
Firing order is 3 2 1 4
My problem is this. I did a hard pull one night an smelled a burning smell. Smelt more like electric than rubber, or oil. The car drove fine, I drove it home, parked it, woke up the next day and it started fine, drove it to work and then when I was getting off the highway, the car just died on me.
It would crank and crank and crank, seemed to get fuel but no spark. So I tow the car back home. I plug in my laptop, test the fuel pump, it kicks on, I check for any DTCs and everything seems fine, ECU cycles fine, ECMLink connects fine.
So I go to test for spark, so I take out my cylinder 1 spark plug wire, I put another spark plug in it, put it near my strut tower and it fires up on 3 cylinders. I'm like ok, that's weird. So I shut the car off, put the spark plug back into cyl 1 and it fires up and is running fine.
So I hop on the highway and take it to work, I get off the highway and the car dies again in basically the same spot, no strong smell of burning electronics, but I get out and you can smell it under the hood. I plug my laptop in, turn my laptop on and the car starts up and runs fine.
Driving home from work, the car is running fine, until the rpms go to 0, then they go back up to 2500, then back down to 0, then back to 2500 and I keep cruising and the car doesn't die, but it was close.
So just to be safe, I order in new spark plug wires (NGK), I get a new saturn alternator, get a power transistor, coil pack, etc. So today, I install all my stuff, new wires, coil pack, power transistor, alternator, Even replaced my dp gasket. So I made sure I fixed everything up good. I start the car, it is running good, pulling good everything is nice. I go to the store, come home, shut the car off, go back to start it a few hours later and the car cranks and cranks but wont start.
So I do the spark plug in the spark plug wire and it fires up on 3 cylinders just fine, plug the cylinder 1 spark plug wire back in and it runs fine.
So now I am at an absolute loss. The ECU seems to be fine, but maybe that's the issue? I dunno. I honestly don't know what to do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
