I'm trying to resolve some phantom (read: intermittent) idle issues on my 95 tsi. Figuring it's time to order new vacuum lines just to make sure, I begin to wonder what's going on with my throttle body..only 2 of the 4 vacuum ports have lines coming off; the other 2 are capped. Having trouble finding definite info on what these ports are.

I'm pretty sure I have a 7-bolt w/2g intake, tb, head, etc. Not sure. Car had a swap done before I bought it. Info on this swap is scarce; owner claimed evo3 swap but pics from the swap clearly show a tmic on the engine before the swap was complete.

But yeah, vacuum ports..? Thanks in advance.

You can either delete all your vacuum lines or get a 2g TB to match it to your 2g intake mani.
Either one of those choices should solve your idle issues.
I personally don't like the idea of "t-ing" vacuum lines together.

So that's not a 2g throttle body? It matched up with the manifold when I had it apart to clean and I couldn't discern any overlap on either end.

liquidx: Thank you, but I can't enlarge the images and haven't been able to discern anything from that. I already checked out that link before but couldn't make anything of it; that's why I had to make a new post. Thx though.

Get yourself a 2g TB and i can help you route the vac lines for you correctly after you get it swapped out.

You have a 1g tb.

Follow this guide for the vacuum lines:
RREs# Eclipse 2G Turbo 1G Throttle Body Swap

Poifect. Thanks for the link, not sure how I missed that the first time I read it.

Sooo...follow-up question: what intake manifold do I have? If I pull the TB off and it lines up with the manifold w/o overlap, does that necessarily mean the mani is a 1g as well?

I believe it's an early 2g intake manifold, but I could be wrong. It's definitely not a 1g manifold, they don't have MDP sensors. A previous owner could have ported the intake mani out to match the throttle body.

wow, if you dont have emission checks there you should totally delete that cluster of confusion, you only need a couple of those hooked up

I think that's the route I'll be going.

LiQUiDx: finally figured out a way to blow up the pics in that link, very helpful, tyvm.

That's the black rectangular sensor right? I'll have to take it off + post pics tomorrow; car is at college while I pick up the scoobie for the wifie.

Great, will update tomorrow morning some time.

Also, not to hijack my own thread, but I just picked up a ported/polished cyclone intake mani for $150 (couldn't pass up the chance to drive myself crazy trying to actuate it) so I'm likely looking at a 1g head swap at some point now too

If in fact you do have a 7-bolt block, you'll have some complications running the head. I know it will slide over, but I'm not sure how the 1mm size difference will affect mounting. 7-bolt blocks have 11mm head studs and the 6-bolt has 12mm studs and that's the same for the holes in head. Just some info for you to look into.

Thanks for the "heads"-up (sorry couldn't resist :D ). If I do indeed have a 7-bolt then I'm going to have to find a more creative way to get that intake on. I doubt the ports on the 2g head can be opened up enough to match up, and even if they can, I wonder about the airflow efficiency. More researching to come...

Will post pics of MDP sensor later today.
