I did do a search beforehand, but wasn't able to find what I needed.

Like many DSMs, my 2g awd has a slight clunk under decel or sometimes when changing gears. I have read the vfaqs on the caulk fix but those were for 1g.

Today I went under my car to try to remove the (driveshaft) rear carrier bearing bracket. I was able to remove the two nuts from the studs, and pull off two vibration washers. However after this, the bracket did not want to come off, almost as though it was part of the bearing itself.

My question is this:
Are the 1g and 2g carrier bearing brackets different? Is the bracket on the 2g an integral part of the bearing?

Would I have to pull the driveshaft to be able to remove this bearing?

Is there another way to fill this sucker up with caulk to try to fix it?

thanks:dsm:

Are you sure you should check your rear diff mounts they might be bad. there are three two in the back one up front.

The 2g carrier bearing is different from the 1g in that instead of a 2 wall rubber bushing it is a single wall rubber bushing. The lac of an inner area to fill with silicone is why the 1G fix does not work.

The bracket, bushing, and bearing are a one piece unit. You must pull the driveshaft to remove the CB.

I pulled the whole drive shaft out and hung it from the cealing in my garage and filled the gap on the top side of the CBs with silicone and let it cure for a day. I then flipped the axle and suspended it from the other end and repeted the process. The CB is now solid as can be and will not cause your axle to flop around anymore.

How hard was it to pull the driveshaft? If it is difficult, then I probably might just leave it as is.

I'm also not sure how much free play there is supposed to be in the rear CB, since mine actually looked to be in pretty decent condition.

And I was prying on the bracket a bit too to see if it was just stuck :X

Great info, thanks for clearing that up.
