Carrier Bearing? Rear Axle? I don't know.

I'm having what sounds like the same exact problem as this guy. When I launch my car or just accelerate hard in first gear, I get some sort of vibration that feels like its coming from the right rear of the car. My first thought was the right rear axle.

I have new OEM carrier bearings sitting at my house ready to be put on, I was thinking that could be contributing to it as well. But I mostly just bought them for maintainance.

Has anybody else had this problem or one similar? Only under hard acceleration. What was the resolution?

The rear drivetrain on this car is one of the things that I'm new to working with, as I haven't had any issues with it until recently. So be nice haha.

EDIT:

Alright, I've talked to a couple people and I've been told that the culprit could be either.
-Right Rear axle
-Right Rear wheel bearing
-Right Rear brake caliper

What do you guys think?

If the boots arent torn on the axle, I wouldnt say its bad. Jack the right rear wheel up and grab the wheel and see if there's slop in the hub to check the bearing, OR, drive the car in a left circle and then a right circle in an empty parking lot, and note whether the vibration/ noise changes. Id see if the rotor is warped and if the caliper guide pins are seized first, as thats a common problem on 1G cars and also the easiest to check other than visually inspectiong the cv boots for tears.

Sounds like driveshaft thump to me. Replace your carrier bearings and you should see the issue go away.

If the axle was bent it would vibrate more often then just when launching hard.

I'm about 1000 miles away from the car at the moment. So I can't inspect it. I'm just trying to narrow down the options. Thanks for the replies.

Note that this only happens when accelerating really hard in first gear or launching the car. It doesnt happen any other time.

Thomcasey- I'll just trying to get an idea of what else may be causing/contributing to it

Happened to me, once (like in 1998 shortly after i bought it). Usually in 4th under accel, at the time i had the dealer fix it and they shimmed the middle carrier (i think, maybe front?) with some rubber under the washer to put more pressure under it and it never happened again. As for what causes it, who knows, but its the shaft not your rear axles.
