^^ He beat me to it.

To answer another part of your question, that may be a good price for a turbo, but you will have to do extensive modifying to get the evo 8 turbo on your eclipse (it faces the wrong way). If you are ready to do a lot of work, it would be a good setup.

The IPT guy posts here as transdude or something similar, you can see how he works by searching through his posts.

Edit: Also, the turbo is far more work than it's worth.

damn,

reason i ask is cause my turbo is leakin some oil and it seems smarter to buy a bigger one than rebuild. i am only want 300hp any suggestion on a good turbo?

yeah not lookin to do to much work this is my DD right now, i already have a lot to do to this car to even get it ready for a good base start for the 300hp

T28 will get you to 300, but if you want room to grow the E3 16g is a nice turbo, Ive heard Hp numbers for it ranging above 350. (16g requires an install kit, its somewhere around $125, t28's direct bolt on)

yeah only problem is tight on money at this time.

trying to not spend large amounts on the turbo right now.

so would it be wise to just have it rebuilt?

There abouts, if you're going with a T28 go with Forced Performance's Big T28, it'll make a killer street turbo.

IMO t28's a waist of money for the short range of HP it pushes, Join the masses and get a 16g, Haha you know you'll want more hp eventually like the rest of us, and the 16g will give you that room to grow.

^t28 is a pretty mean street turbo.

yeah the only reason i say 300ish is cause i believe that will be the limit till i get pissed and do the awd conversion. :sneaky:

o and i just found on craigslist this turbo that " 16g with 18g internals" with no price what should i offer him

I wouldn't touch it, just get a nice Evo 16g or Small 16g, don't screw around with the hybrids.

Agreed, but I'm not going to steer him away from it if his heart set on it.

I prefer new turbos also, that way you know what your getting.

Used turbos are fine if you know how to check them, I'm not saying avoid them. I am however saying avoid frankenturbos second hand. Avoid franken-anything second hand, really, who knows who built it, why, with what tools and what materials, and under what guidance.

I'm just saying its what I prefer. I think fp made a sleeper 16g with a 18g compressor so it might not be a backyard special frankenstein, could be legitimately built turbo.

my heart is not set on anything right now.

but good lookin out dude.

but what you all are sayin well implyin is to hold off save the money and buy a new one?

It's all up to you, everyone has an opinion on what to get, but its your car, If you feel good about a used turbo, go that direction, if not, get a new one or hold off till you do find a good used one, Just make sure you weigh your options.

I know there was more to your post but I thought I'd add a bit. Yes, the Evo XIII turbo faces the wrong way but its internals also spin the opposite direction so you can't just flip it.

To the OP:
Don't buy crap off of craigslist unless the guy your buying it from has a reputation with the local DSM community and its a good one. My first turbo purchase left me $350 in the hole for a 16g that didn't work and it was a craigslist buy. The classifieds here on this site are littered with used t25's that WILL work and if you get screwed you have paypal and the feedback section helping you get your money back. What kind of quality control do you have for some back door deal in a guys garage over craigslist?

If you get the t25 or the t28 it will bolt DIRECTLY in place of the existing stock turbo on your 2g. If you spend money on a 16g, even if it is only $200, you're going to spend another $300 to get it to bolt up correctly because its not stock for a 2g DSM. I sold my t25 for $75 shipped and it was damn near perfect with only 70,000 miles on it and nothing more than stock boost ran through it. It shouldn't be too hard to find a similar price for the same turbo on the classifieds here.

To the people chatting in here:
Theres a bunch of random un-necessary blabber in here, I understand its the newbie forum but your almost using this thread as a chat room and making it harder for the OP to get the questions answered. Save the space for posts that might have some useful information because it just clutters the thread otherwise. Posting guesses or hearsay is also ridiculous, if you heard that "FP made a sleeper 16g with 18g internals" then look it up. Your already at a computer, obviously, so Google is at your finger tips ladies and gentlemen and so is the forum search on tuners. Forced Performance DID make a sleeper 16g turbo but recently replaced it with a newer, higher flowing, and CHEAPER 16g framed turbo called the HTA68 which is the turbo I run. The sleeper 16g FP did make had a 20g compressor wheel and not an 18g like M4Dboost heard about.
