2G OEM Piston Ring Gaps

Hey guys, I'm about to start assembling my motor and I have a few questions about piston ring gap. I don't have a manual with me now, but I think the recommended gap is between .0098-.0138, with a service limit of .031. So far I've only checked the 1st ring on once cylinder, and at the top it measured .022, and bottom was .020. I know that it is under the service limit, but is it too far away from the recommended .0138? Also does the gap of each respective ring need to be the same in each cylinder? Im using a set of NPR rings in an Evo III block with stock bore, and a fresh hone. Thanks, Cj.

Gap should be the same for all cylinders. Piston ring gap is almost always recommended by multiplying the cylinders bore size by a given value based on performance goals(amount of heat). With that being said running a looser ring end gap is not that big of a deal. You shouldn't burn oil until you get into a pretty big ring end gap(.040+) .020 and .022 is an acceptable ring gap for your plans.
