2G 2G no electrical power after rebuild

Hello,

I've finally got my car assembled and was trying to start it today for the first time but i have no power.

- Battery is fully charged and brand new
- Headlights, 4 ways, marker lights all work when i turn the lights on the steering wheel
- Door chimes work when doors are open
- dash lights up when i turn the lights on (key out)

When i put the key in the ignition it freely turns and i dont have any lights come on indicating the key is in let alone being able to turn it over. Hoping someone has some insight, car is running a 97 GSX harness

It’s connected but I have an hks turbo timer so that harness is plugged inline as well.

When I put the key in and open the drivers door it beeps. If I don’t have the key on the drivers door doesn’t beep

Get out the multimeter and start measuring.

It’s connected but I have an hks turbo timer so that harness is plugged inline as well.

I would unplug the turbo timer and see if turning the key does what it’s supposed to after.

You say the key turns freely. Like no resistance or you can feel the different positions of the ignition switch.

Does the steering wheel unlock when you turn the key to the on position?

did you remember to connect the power cable to the junction block in the engine bay after rebuild? or possibly bad ground? does the car crank up and run?

all cables connected under the hood, fuse box under the hood is also getting 12v at all the right locations.

I feel like if it was a bad ground i wouldnt have working headlights, interior lights, centre console etc. Car doesnt crank, there is no power when i put the key into the ignition (cluster doesnt light up)

tried this and didnt make a difference unfortunately

feels like there is no resistance, if i turn it slow i can feel a light click. Steering wheel is unlocked

I have 12v here with no key. Plug is what goes in the back of the ignition switch.

Little 10 fuse under the dash for ACC was fine also. Swapped it just in case but made no difference

No power at the cigarette light but the lights for it work when I turn on the headlights.

Should there be power there when the car is off?

So i replaced the coil on the back of the key cylinder with a spare i had and then i had power at the centre console and some of my dash but the key still felt like it had no resistance. Doing some research it looks like i have a key cylinder from an automatic and this is a manual car. I do have a spare cylinder here but i cant get it to fit. Do i need to swap something else for this to happen?

This is what I was getting at in my post earlier. The way you described it to me sounded like it’s not a wiring issue but more of a key cylinder /ignition switch issue.

It’s still early here in PA and I haven’t removed the ignition switch in some years.
