Maybe some electrical gurus can give me an answer on how these problems interrelate to each other.

When I first tried to start my 98 spyder gs-t after an engine rebuild, I noticed that my alternator does not work. The light in the tachometer stayed on after I started the car. So I took the alternator out of the car and got it checked by a shop. They told me that it is in a good working condition.

Later that day I put the alternator back into the car and noticed the following symptoms:

Head lights and tail lights are not working, but the brake light is. Also the backlightning of the speedo is not working. That made me think that maybe there is something wrong with the left column switch but then the turn signals are still working like they should.

So am I fighting 2 seperate problems or can those problems relate to each other?

I would say maybe a fuse or relay for the lighting is blown since running lights, gauge lights, and tail lights are all linked to the same spot. Check through your wire tuck for the alternator cables coming from the battery. My last eclipse I replaced those cables and couldn't get power to the alt until I hooked up the original cables. I think there's a fusable link placed within that section, or something else that helps energize the alt.
