Ok, i'm tryin to wire in a 2g mas to a 1g harness for my 1990 eclipse. I've read the VFAQ, and honestly the graphs dont make sense to me. I need to know what wires to connect together. Can anyone give me a detailed list?

also, to correct the air/fuel from the 2g mas with stock 450s. I should add ~20% all the way across the safc correct?

I would Do some more searching before jumping right into wiring the 2g up and check some more of your options to be sure so you will not mess anything up.

if you don't understand the vfaq write up then spend the $50, its going to be a CLEAN install too. 89-94 Mitsubishi Eclipse, Talon, Laser & Galant VR4 1G to 2G [TN-1G2GMH] - $49.89 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

once you do the install your going to need at the least an SAFC to controll fuel or else you'll be running lean.

I have an SAFC, thats why i asked if a ~20% correction across the board with stock injectors should put me back in the right AFR. I have wiring knowledge. Just not sure which wire connects to which wire. I would much rather solider/heatshrink it myself instead of paying 50 dollars for it.

since you have wiring knowledge and are soldering/heatshrinking it you should take pictures and post a "how-to" tech article on the tuners forum now that you've got the wiring info. that way people aren't confused reading the vfaq how to...

The problem is that there are too many different "2G MAS" connectors available, and every one of them has different colored wires. You first have to identify which plug you are using, where it came from. That's why the VFAQ is so confusing, but it is correct, so you should study it further.
As far as the AFC setting, the 1G and 2G are very similar at idle, and very low airflow, but the 2G MAS puts out a 25% lower signal for the rest of the range. You really should have a logger to see the fueltrims to tune it properly.

Which is why I don't reference the wire colors on the 2G MAF connector, only the wire colors on the 1G harness. The harness colors aren't going to change but the wires in the connector depend on where the connector came from.

Just a quick question. Im about to tune an safc for the first time on a stock fuel system 1g with minor mods and a 2g maf. For a global setting, will it be relatively 0%? I'm going to have to bust out my palm and my pocketlogger software. The car was running until the battery and ecu was disconnected. I am assuming this is related to the safc losing settings, but im not familiar with them at all and really am not sure if thats common or not.
Thanks

Your best bet will be to start at zero and work your way from there based on the STFT readings on the datalogger. And let me be the first to say whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhere have you been hiding?

I would expect the setting to be in the +20% range. At low airflow I seem to remember it being more like +30% over a 1G MAF based on the data Jeff O. posted a long time ago.

Last one I did was 26% but it was stock aside the intake. I started at zero and just check trims from there.

Im a little excited to tune this car, its been awhile since I got to start from scratch :D

AND, I dont know. I got out of dsms for awhile when my car started breaking transmissions all the time. Then I eventually dumped some $ for a Shep stage 4 and Im finding my way back into things. Im heading to the track this weekend to see if I cant net a 10.90. Good to see some familiar....uh, screen names LOL

Haha yeah I know how that is. I was out for about a year as well. Good to see you back.

Hey sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I need a straight answer.

When I install a 2g maf, Ill have to add more fuel or lean it out? Im hoping the 2g maf leans the car out, so I can add more fuel. Im at like -25% correction with 16g, 560cc, 15psi.

Yes, the 2g maf will lean the car out and you should be back to settings close to zero on your SAFC. That is why the 550's are good to use with the 2g maf, because they come close to balancing the two out.:)

Less fuel from the 2g maf + more fuel from the 550's = almost a perfect match

Awesome perfect answer. Cause right now im leaning out like 25% for hi throttle. Ill keep an eye out for a 2g maf. Im using 560s.

Hi guys...new to this site...

Just wanted to ask...is an safc and absolute necessity when hooking up a 2g maf to a 1g? I'm about to do this to my GVR4 but don't have the safc yet. I do have 510cc's on, a Walbro 255, and a 16g. Could i just wire up the 2g maf and drive it like that for a while until i get an safc and hope that the AF ratio's are close to ideal or will i still lean out?

thanks!

A GVR4 MAF is different than a 1G MAF. The compensation talk inside the ECU is different so the corrections for a 2G MAF are going to be different on a GVR4 when using a GVR4 specific ECU.

I haven't done the calculations to see how far off it would be with 510cc injectors.

All the real GVR4 ECUs are EPROM versions so another option would be getting a chip for it with the right settings.

Thanks!

The reason I'm looking at using a 2g maf in my VR4 is that the stock maf has crapped out. as far as i can tell, it got fouled by the oil from my K&N filter. It's now a sputtering mess. It even runs better if i just unplug the maf only it throws a CEL. I just happen to have a 2g maf handy.

What i was hoping for was a temporary fix so i can drive the car until next month when I can finally get an ecmlink.

But I don't think i want to risk using the 2g maf now, might screw up the car.
