Long story short I have a 2g eclipse gst w/ 1g 4g63t swap. A local shop did the swap. no probs till now. 4 days ago I started to smell something burning. checked it out and found nothing. Temp gauge never read high or did it overheat.3 days ago checked again this time found antifreeze splattered on the intake hose near the bov and some above the exhaust manifold. I went to start it again to check for white smoke out the muffler or to do the cardboard test. But when I turned the key all it did was nothing not even turn the starter at all It did dim the lights though so I replaced the battery and still nothing . I have been reading threads for two days now and just can't find an answer. Any help at all to what this could be would be more than appreciated.
thank you in advance for any help

I would take the spark plugs out and see what you can down inside them. Maybe the headgasket blew and hydro locked the motor?

I'd check the plugs see if they are fouled, look at the tops of the pistons, you wont be able to see much but see if their is any moisture. I would check the starter, and all the grounds. If you can get it to turn over then a compression test would be next to see if the head gasket is blown. Try and figure out where the coolant is coming from.

Did you smell the burning inside or outside of the car? Maybe your ECU?

Does the CEL come on when you turn the key?

I first smelled the burning inside the car first and it wasn't till the clipse warmed up that I noticed it . I have to say it almost smelled like the clutch. But the clutch is brand new. And I could smell it a lil bit when i got out but not as strong. As far as the cel it has'nt come on at all. The instrament panel works>yeah< ......

You state that the starter does not engage when you turn the key but do you hear the starter relay clicking when you turn it?

When I turn the key it "clicks" once. It sounds like its coming from the radio area inside the car. outside it does sound around the starter area but not the starter itself. I can turn the key and hear the "click"repeatidly as fast as i can turn the key from off position to the start position. And it still wont turn the motor or engage the gear to the flywheel. I can't get it to "grind" no matter how fast I do it.

Could be a potential poopy ground to me. I have seen crappy grounds melt the insulation right off of wires before (possibly your burning smell). Check EVERY connection and ground for possible bad connections...or your starter is toast and the and thats the burning smell of a stuck solenoid trying to engage and spin the starter..but not doing so. Give the starter a few good raps with a hammer and see if it busts loose, or just take it to a local parts store and have it tested. Im willing to bet a good chance that its just the starter.

If you know where the starter is located you can tap on the solenoid and see if that does the trick, or you could try push starting it but if your starter does not engage checking spark plugs, boost leak and compression tests arent going to get you anywhere. Like SBR Joe said, it could have started out as a grounding issue and turned to bigger electrical problems.

That does not sound good, open the bleeder valve on the slave cylinder and see if the pressure in the pedal remains, you might want to connect a hose to the valve so you dont shoot brake fluid everywhere.

UPDATE.... I turned the motor via the 1/2 in drive on the bottom pulley at the crank..woo ... so the motor is not locked up ...good news.. I jumped the starter(damn that is a bi*** to get too from under a this car w/out a jack) it would spin but not engage the flywheel at all....sigh.... I checked all fuses again .... checked the clutch relay.... and every wire i came across for some sign of something .... I came up with nothing .. so did my bud who has a 1g w/ same motor ... what now ....

How did you jump the starter? If you connected the two big post together than all it will do is spin the motor. If you connect the large post from the battery and the little lead on the siliniod then that should engage the bendix and turn the motor. The fact that your clutch wont depress is somewhat of a concern. It's not very likely but you might want to check that something (like your flywheel) didn't come loose and is binding the starter gear.
