i am in the process of buying a 97 gst that is a 5-speed, and i am getting it for my wife, but she wants a auto. i know, i know. please do not tell me it is a waste of time. i am getting the car for peanuts, so i promised i would look into it. i see a bunch of threads about auto to manual swaps, but none about manual to auto.
would the process be the oppisite of auto to five speed? or do i need to run a new harness to a trans ecu? if that is the case, then i think she will have to learn how to drive a manual. its that i live in the mountains, and i am afraid of her rolling backwards into someone at a traffic light. LOL
if anyone has done this before, please chime in

I know you don't want people telling you it's a waste of time, but it would probably cheaper and definitely a hell of a lot easier to just buy an automatic for her. That, or just teach her to drive stick. It's not a difficult thing to learn.

Yes you will need a new harness. You would need Engine and possibly dash and body harness. I do not know which harness the tcu goes to. Also would need:
shifter
shifter cable
c-v axels
Rear engine mount
Trans cooler
flexplate
flexplate bolts
atuo break pedal (if you want the larger pedal)

That is about all I can think off off hand right now.

well, i do not think it would be cheaper to just buy a auto car, cause this car is almost mint condition, BUT IT IS A MANUAL

well sell it and make cash on it and buy an auto or teach her stick its honnestly not worth it

well i would get prices of everything neded first and go from there like satated a above going to need

atuo trans
wiring harness
tuc
ecu
shifter
shift cables
center console
axles
rear motor mount
i think the trans mounts are diffrent as well
I know theres a few things im forgeting but honnestly to make it somewhat worth it you would have to have a junked atuo gst just siting around you may also need to rewire stuff for the break pedal

I kind of assumed you would sell the current car if you chose to buy an automatic DSM. Anyway, after the amount of time you spend converting it she might have wished you did just buy a different one.
