A few months ago, I turned my car off and a GREEN light popped up in my cluster that said SECURITY. Nothing happened after that. Tonight I got home, shut my car off, locked the doors then shut them, and about 30 minutes later, the alarm just started going off! I didn't even think my car had an alarm. The horn was beeping and the 4-ways were flashing. My Dad went out and jiggled the passenger side door handle and it turned off and it hasn't gone off since. Any body have any input? On a side note, my power door locks only work sometimes but I can hear a relay clicking when I try to lock the doors. I gather that the power door locks are tied into an alarm system somehow. I am currently looking for a wiring diagram that might detail a factory alarm system on a 2g.

When you click "lock" on the remote twice or press the lock button inside your car twice, the alarm system is enabled and the green SECURITY light illuminates.

Now that I think about it, I've owned my car more than 3 years now and I've never heard my alarm go off for any reason other than by hitting the panic button by accident.

Yes, the power door locks are tied into the factory alarm. You might want to remove the interior door panels and check the wiring to the door lock cylinders. When the alarm goes off usually the only way to stop it is to insert the key into the driver's side door and turn the lock. I think you have to turn it clockwise. It seems odd that wiggling the passenger door handle caused it turn off.

Wes, I only have to hit the lock button once to have my "Security" light turn on and set the alarm. According to my Owner's Manual the parking lights are supposed to flash to indicate that the alarm is indeed activated but my car has never done that.

The issue is that I don't have the remotes and I didn't even know my car had an alarm. When the car was purchased by the person I bought from in 2000, it didn't have remotes for the alarm either. Any chance getting remotes would be possible? I would love to use the alarm that I just found out my car has.

All 2gs have this alarm...remotes, go to the dealership with all proof of ownership and tell them you need one.

My car did this as well, One thing that "fixed it" was having a turbo timer and locking the car while it's running, the alarm does not get activated that way.

But it is as simple as one of the sensors (doors, hood or trunk) thinking that that particular entry/exit is not sealed.

The dealer can get new remotes for the alarms? I might just have to do that. I would love to use it. Could the fact that my door locks only work sometimes have anything to do with it?

Also, If it goes off, you can open the trunk/hatch with the key. That should disable it.

Being that it is a FACTORY alarm, I would assume so.

When it rings, you can just stick the key in the passenger door (or trunk i guess) and turn it and it will stop.

UPDATE: I have a new situation with the alarm now.

If I leave the passenger door locked and then lock the drivers side door on the inside, the GREEN security light comes on every time. After locking the drivers side door and shutting it, the green security light stays lit for about 7 seconds and goes off. I assume then that the alarm is armed which this morning I proved my self correct. I unlocked the drivers side door with the key, opened it and the alarm started going off. While the alarm was going off, I put the key into the ignition and it still kept going off. I started the car and finally the alarm turned off.

I am quite lost as to where to start besides trying to get remotes. I read on some of the other forums that it's possible to head to the dealer and get remotes. Can anyone vouch for that? Other than that, I am at a loss until I find a wiring diagram for the alarm system.

I just did the same thing on my spyder. To get the alarm to turn off without the clicker you put the key into the driver side door and turn it to the Lock position (counter clockwise) I didn't know that mine came with an alarm either until i hit the lock button twice and saw the same light, then i checked the factory window sticker.

Thats because the alarm only goes off when the door is opened by hand, leave the window down and set the alarm, then reach into the car and open the door from the inside handle. That will get it going. It wont go off if you only tug on the outside handle the door has to open while it is armed.

You can actually completely disarm the factory alarm by grounding the factory disarm wire which is Green/White in the Drivers kick panel.

Use a test light and connect the end to negative. Touch the negative lead to the green/white wire and while inside with the doors closed, press the lock button twice from the drivers door to try and arm the factory alarm. If the green security light turns on, then its the wrong wire. If it doesn't come on, then its the right wire. The only other green/white wire in the harness is parking lights so that's obviously the wrong wire (testing this wire will light up with the test light when the parking lights are turned on).

Here is the schematics for installing an aftermarket alarm for anyone needing to install one:

So funny story. A week ago I said I'd never heard my alarm go off. Well my girlfriend was visiting yesterday and she noticed the window was part way down but the car was locked. So she reached through the open passenger window and pulled the inside handle. Tada! The car alarm went off.

I put the key in the driver's side, turned it clock-wise, and the alarm turned off.

For some odd reason, the past 2 days my factory alarm has been going off at 12:00 midnight. This is the second time it has happened. It's like it has a timer alarm on there going off for no reason?

Does anyone know what could be the case? Thanks in advance

Leave your windows down, arm your car, reach in through the window and open the door from the inside.

Edit: somebody already stated this LOL

To disarm, you need to use your key to unlock either door or hatch. To test each individually for proper disarming of system, arm the system by locking doors using inside power lock switch (close doors, trunk, hood after). Then use key to unlock driver door and open door. If the alarm goes off, pull the interior door panel and check that the little round 2 wire switch is present on the back of the lock cylinder and plugged in to the door harness. Amazing how often a door handle is replaced and the switch is not re-installed, plugged in, or pops back off. If it is installed properly, then unplug and use an ohm meter to check for proper operation. Repeat for passenger door and rear hatch.

Note that for proper alarm operation, your door switches (the ones at the bottom of the door jamb) must be present/working. Also most people dont realize there is a switch under the hood that must be adjusted for proper operation (or bypassed). Many times, the hood gets replaced by an aftermarket hood and the switch will no longer make/break properly. If it is just on the edge of adjustment, when you park it for the night and the temps drop and everythings settles, it can trigger the alarm and make it seem like its on a timer.

Mine started randomly going off during high winds after I installed a carbon fiber hood. I noticed it bowed a bit.

There is a hood switch/sensor near the front right of the car. I just added a sticky circular pad on the hood. Now it is flush and doesn't set off the alarm via hood during windy days.

Old thread. Anyone come up with anything?

I have a compustar and it started doing this a few days ago.

Randomly goes off after locking the car via the compustar remote. I do not have the original locks. It's not the factory alarm going off, it's the Compustar one.

Help. I have the car in Valet mode, so no alarm.

Mine just started going off when I open the passanger door with the key.... Now my drivers door handle broke over a month ago and I haven't fixed it yet so I unlock the door every day from the passanger side. Also my door switches neverwork they are both bad. But the passanger one started working today and so did this annoying alarm. Also I dont have a key for the drivers door or the hatch

Bringing this back. Twice in the past week my factory alarm has gone off.. The first time I didnt realize thats what was going on. I unlocked my door to get something and heard a relay clicking. Didnt see anything out of the ordinary, but then again I didnt look very long as I had other things to get to. I have the horn removed and hood switch as well, pass side door switch is bad as well. Came back out later and the clicking was gone. Started the car and left, click click click. only this time I noticed the Security light was on as well as my hazards blinking.

Then nothing happened for a few days. Then tonight I got home, locked the car and walked away. Forgot my laptop in my car, opened the door, lights flashing and clicking! NO security light..

The hell is going on here? Never had any troubles with the alarm in the 7 years I've owned the car. The only thing Ive done wiring wise to the car before this started happening was relocated the battery to the trunk and installed my subwoofer.

I had similar issues to you all at one point. For mine it ended up being the power lock thing on the back of the key cylinder. What happens is when these go bad or begin to stick. They can leave this mechanism on the wrong position. And when you use your key or open the door the alarm can think something's up. I replaced both of mine one for each door and also replaced the little door switch by the striker. As those can also play tricks on the alarm and make it go off randomly. Hope this helps if you need anymore details or part numbers just ask, I have them somewhere LOL! I got all my parts from mitsubishiparts.com

Well I can't figure out what it is I've tried everything. Is there any shops or DSM specialist in the Dallas area that I can get my car too.
