Well I searched, but am unable to post in the advanced forums I guess.

Im looking into putting a 2G ECU into a 1G, or better yet the EVO ECU.

Im VERY familiar with ECU Flash and EVO Scan, so with the 1G im purchasing I would LOVE to use it. since its free and I've already purchased evoscan.

Ive been reading the thread on the EVO Ecu going in the 2G, and was wondering what the reasons were as to way a 2G or EVO Ecu couldnt be put in a 1G.

I already have an EVO ecu as well, since I was going to do the swap in my 3rd Gen (ghey yes I know) but abandoned turboing it since I got a good deal on a 1G TSI AWD.
Im not a total newb so Im fine if you could even point me in the general direction (like a thread link) or something.

Thanks in advance guys.

There is plenty of info available on the 1g "E931" ecu. You can use Tunerpro(free) with an Ostrich emulator($175), socketed eprom ecu($60) and you're on your way to full timing/fuel control. You can also change many other things as well, via hex editing
First Generation DSM EPROM Editing
TunerPro and TunerPro RT - Professional Automobile Tuning Software
Also check out the DSMecu Yahoo forums for pretty much everything you could imagine modifying in the ecu.

There's also DSMapv2(Jackal)
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tun...l-free-speed-density-tuning-software-1gs.html

There are also piggyback tuning devices that have their limitations, but work well with smaller injectors(up to 650cc)
SAFC 1 & 2
Maf-t v1, gen2, pro

I have never heard of anyone putting an evo8 ecu in a 1g and I would have to imagine the wiring, etc. would be quite a project.

Now, everyone on here will tell you to go with DsmLink, which is a great product for dsm's
ECMTuning, Inc.

Just decide what your goals are, do some research and make an informed decison before you purchase something

Get a wideband O2 and logger, whichever route you choose!

Thanks for the response and totally not trying to sound like an ass, but I'm aware of most of the tuning programs for the 1G ( I did do some reading in the Tuning section before posting).

But my question was just mainly if it had been done or if theres some big thing I'm missing as to why it can't be done.

When you say theres quite a bit of wiring to do, is that as in making like a jumper harness to connect to the new ECU?

Because I rewired my 3rd Gen auto ECU to run an EVO ECU, which, was quite a bit of work but was worth it for tuning abilities.
And I noticed the thread on the 2G now using the EVO ECU. Which also would be quite a bit of wiring, but again, if the wiring job you're speaking of is just with like a custom jumper then I'd be fine with that.

Thanks again.

well i havent seen a 2g or evo ecu in person to know if it would just plug in like the 1g but a good guess at why it wont work it is 90-94 ob1 and 95 and up ob2

I don't think anyone would want to mess with it. Being 1g is obd1 and 2g is obdII that alone is enough to scare people away. It's not going to be worth the headache anyway.

i mean if a 2g ecu can be swaped into a 1g harness i dnt see why it should work with an evo.. it may take a lot of work to get it work properly but it may! be possible if you can get you hands on a ecu diagram compare it to the 2g and the evo and then start splicing!

It really depends on how much it's worth to you. Do you have access to an evo harness? I would think if you could find a totaled evo, and grab sensors and the harness out of it, then it wouldn't be much worse than replacing the main harness. Until the flashing of the 2g ecu is sorted out, I think it would be pointless to put the 2g ecu in a 1g.

The 1g and 2g/evo harness are very different. The evo and 2g harness are very similar. The plugs wont even fit IIRC.

I have heard of a 1g ecu in a Galant (2g style harness) so it could be possible so if you have the ambition then please make a write up for it.

I was almost 100% sure this wouldnt be a plug and play type situation.
The OBDI and OBDII was moreso what I was worried about, I'm yet to try and figure out what the problem would be with that, will do some searching on it.

I do; harness, sensors, and the ecu itself.

And I've read the 2G ECU thread and they seem as though they have figured it out, well at least some, others are still struggling. And my intent wasnt really to put the 2G ECU in the 1G, I suppose I made the title of this thread incorrect.

Could someone here do me a favor and make this thread in an actual tech section? I appreciate all of the help so far, but I feel as though this isnt exactly a newbie tech question.

Thank You.

Possible but it is more work than its worth when there already is Ostrich and JACKAL available. For the cost of a 2G harness, EVO ECU, Tactrix Cable, and you time and labor (don't know how expensive your time is) then dealing with CELS and bugs. People already have problems swapping 1G ECU's into 1G's =p Let alone a OBDII EVO8 ECU. But in theory, its all 12v +/- signals and 1-5v signals. Its a matter of getting the right signal to the right pins, theoretically. That's how the 2G/EVO8 ECU combo started, just a theory in the beginning. Pull up pinouts, do some research.

It appears that the work is the only problem. Because I already have a harness, ecu and a tactrix cable (from my 3G).

LOL my time is very inexpensive, I go to school, and its summer, I work only 2 days a
week and hang out with some big car guys Sam, you may know one of them... Fathouse? Fathouse Fabs. Fastest stock maf/ecu EVO. But di*k around with cars is all we do, so time isnt much of a prob.

I already have your EVO pinout daigram saved from when i was evo 8 swapping my 3G eclipse. I just found a 1G ECU pinout to compare.

QUESTION: The OBD II port, would that be connected to the harness? Ive looked up the pins for a Diag port but am not 100% sure as to how to incorporate one or if it would already be on the evo harness.

Thanks again guys!

I'd say swap the sensors and harnesses and go for it, but that will take a good bit of time, and some busted up knuckles. From what steve is saying, you should be able to wire up a conversion harness and go. Either way, keep us up to date on how it's working out, sounds like an interesting project.

90-91el - might be helpful

BTW- steve is the ecu guru, he really knows his stuff, and if you need info that you can't find after looking everywhere you can think of, he might be able to lead you in the right direction.

I don't have any spare time or interest in this swap. The only suggestions I can make is first gather the EVO 8 to 2G wiring changes and then see if you can find the old 2G to 1G harness docs that Hal did for running DSMLink in a 1G. That will get you started.

It will be interesting to see how this works out.

It works, I just fired mine up last night, months after actually completing the conversion harness (it was finished sometime in January actually just never had the balls to plug it in till the other day). Right now I'm throwing two CAS codes for some reason. I'm not sure if I have a floating ground issue or if the evo ecu is not happy with a 1g CAS. PO335 and PO340. However the car runs seamless. Much better than my eprom 1g ecu. I am very pleased with the results.

if you are running a stock us evo8 rom you will get CEL's for cam/crank sensor. being that is in a 1g i would say switch to the 90550001 rom, that way you dont have to worry about all the emissions junk that the evo8 has under the hood. congrats on getting a 1g running with the evo8 ecu, that had to have been a wiring nightmare....

There is still no point when there is jackal and tunerpro. Unless you are bored, or you want to say "I have an EVO ecu running my car!"

If you really have to do some wiring shenanegans, at that price, and for the amount of work, you may as well setup a megasquirt.
