Resolved 2G Engine missing something

Hi all,

Got this 95 GST recently and have noticed that it seems like some sort of sensor was eliminated from the valve cover, the first image is my vehicle and the second is a picture I found on google with what looks like is supposed to be located there.

Could anyone tell me what that is?

It may be running a crank trigger. Any extra parts on the timing side?

I’m a 1g guy so my knowledge on 2g is very limited but to my knowledge they have a crank trigger sensor at the crank instead of the cam angle sensor and is controlled by the ECU instead of with the cam.

This is what google had to say about it.

A 2G DSM (1995–1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse, Talon, Laser) uses a separate crankshaft position sensor (often called the crank angle sensor) located near the oil pump on the front crank trigger plate, distinct from the camshaft angle sensor. [1, 2]

Function and Location

• • Crankshaft Sensor (CPS): Mounted at the front of the engine behind the lower timing gear/crank pulley, reading the trigger plate (sensing blade). [1, 2]
  • Camshaft Sensor (CAS): Location varies by year; 2GA (1995–1996) models have it behind the intake cam gear, while 2GB (1997–1999) models have it on the driver's side end of the cylinder head like a 1G. [1, 2]

95 and 96 don't have the cam sensor there. It's under the intake cam gear and there is a crank sensor also. What you have is stock and correct for a 95.

Almost forgot there is a bracket that goes across the seal and you are missing that.
