So I dragged my girlfriend to the local junk yard in town in 94 degree heat and picked up black door panels, black door sills and black quarter panel covers for $52 (with tax). I haven't got all the parts in yet, but I love the upgrade. :D

Here is the pic of the nasty old door panel and 2 pics of the new one.

Huge improvement, Dee.

Now it's time to do the dash in black. You can dye it instead of replacing it.

A local guy here just finished dying his interior black. Turned out great. PIC

Thanks! My 98 Talon came with a black dash. :D

Nice any more info on how and with what that was done?
I proposed that he do a write-up on the process and put it up on this site. We'll see though. If I can get any info about it, I'll be sure to post it up.

DGajre777 - You'll like the black carpet idea as well. I did mine in black back in 05, and it turned out great. Definitely makes a huge improvement on an otherwise all-black interior. :thumb:

I have a black headliner that's falling apart, I need to re-do it. Already painted the headliner plastic parts black. Black carpet are in plans, along with painting the grey plastics black and eliminating the rear seats. Once I get the car going fast enough it'll be time for some black racing seats. ;)

What are you plans for the black headliner? I'm kind of in the same boat.

I did mine in black vinyl 2 years ago, and it went to crap quick. It's still in there and still looking horrible, so I obtained a good condition headliner in the meantime. I'm debating simply dying this one black. I don't trust my headliner covering work anymore, so I want to avoid doing that again.

I haven't done my headliner yet, but... I would consider using an ultrasuede/microsuede material because for real suede it's pretty expenisve per yard. Plus with ultrasuede the material is more flexible and easier to use than vinyl, so you might want to consider re-doing the headliner in that. For adhesive I would use 3M adhesive (I forget the actual name of it but it comes in an aerosel and it's used for all kind of fabrics.)

I'm thinking of a regular black foam backed headliner material. You can get it from www.stockinteriors.com, but microsuede sounds cool!

3M Super 90 was what I used to adhere the vinyl to my headliner. It still wasn't strong enough to hold that heavy vinyl up on those hot summer days.

I have a big roll of black headliner cloth that I bought years ago, I'm just affraid to trust myself to apply it correctly.

I'll first try an aresol dye, and if that doesn't work, I'll weigh other options.

It might not suit your tastes, but I found it easy to just use black fleece. It's fairly inexpensive and hard to screw up when you glue it on. I only did it a couple months ago but it's working great so far.

Would it be insanely expensive to just put your trust in a proffesional shop?? Removing the headliner is half the labor (well... almost half).

Depending where you go. Some places will cut you a deal if you have the headliner already off. Other places will charge you the same price as if they took the headliner off. All depends where you go, how much they charge per hour and if they charge custom labor. This is just a guess, but I would say you would get charged around $200-250 for them to wrap the headliner.

^^^ Your spot on. I called around to a couple places and so far have heard it costs around $200-250 to do job like this, but this was quoted for the headliner, the sunroof shade panels, AND the sun visors. I also learned that when they redo a headliner, the fabric is pre-backed with the foam and then contact cemented to the headliner board. I'm thinking that a do-it-yourself kit would work out great, but then you've gotta try and match it to the visors and sunroof shade panels. I'm still 'up in the air' on this one.

WOW! I just noticed that there is a difference between your door panels and the ones I've got in my '95. The bottom 'storage' area on my doors runs all the way down, nearly to the rear of the door. The ones pictured are much smaller... has anyone ever noticed this before or am I hallucinating?

I wasn't hallucinating. As soon as I got off work I went and checked. My 95 door panels have the pocket that go all the way down to the end of the door.

Maybe it's Eagle/Mitsu thing. I noticed that DGajre777 has a Talon just the same as you do.

... but I pulled the black door panels from a 99 Eclipse GSX from a junk yard.
Good Point! I don't know what to say... it's a DSM oddity i guess.

Maybe Mitsubishi changed door panels between 95 and 98/99 cars.

I found a pic from a 95 in the gallery. I guess Mitsubishi did change the bottom of the panel. Strange...

Damn, lil Paul has out grown rice!!!! What a difference 2 years made. :p Now he just needs a new paint job.:D

Both of my 95 "EClipse" GSXs have the longer pocket on the doors. My old 98 GS-T had the shorter one, my uncle's 98 GS-T has the shorter one. The 95 Talon TSi we just picked up has the shorter one...... well thats because it was broken into and the panels got messed up and were replaced with 98 GS-T panels. (Obvious due to the nasty cloth elephant print design).
But someone confirmed even 95 Talons get the short pocket.

It's one of those things we've overlooked. I personally like the longer pocket. Another + for 95s (eeprom, no obdii test on smog, preforated leather, longer door pockets) haha.

NEVER!! :p I like knowing that nobody will probably ever confuse my car with another. :D

Plus, if you knew how much it costed, you wouldn't "un-do" it either. :p
