2g AWD 95-96 Transmission Pinion gear same as 97-99?

Hey just finishing my rebuild and it dawned on me that I never bothered to see if the pinion needed to be changed when converting a 95-96 trans to a 97-99 trans. Last time i found the answer to this it was regarding a evo/rvr transmission.

I switched the ring gear but didn't notice a difference in the pinion which could cause problems.

Also how do u get the viscous coupler back on. I was told to put it in a skillet on a stove with tyranny fluid and heat it up and it should slide right on. Is this correct?

Pinion gear is the same.

Viscous coupler is as simple as installing your detent ball, aligning the viscous coupler locator grooves with the detents ball, and use your other hand or a small prybar to float the output shaft so the shaft detents align with the detent ball and it draws in to clear the viscous coupler placing it on by hand, getting the first set of splines fully engaged, then wiggle it to engage the 2nd set of splines, and a dead blow hammer rides it home. Install a new snapring and you are golden.

ok 1 large groove in intermediate shaft goes to detant ball?

Then on the VC only there are 2 areas with enlarged grooves. Line them up with the ball i did. I guess i don't have shaft in right spot
