I know the general idea for balancing on manuals BUT on the AUTO's what do you need to bolt up to balance it properly! like the BEST way to do it! is it add the flex plate AND dry torque converter as part of the process? as the fluid is a dampner anyway right? so won't be needing it wet.

looking to get all my parts final balanced to work well but cannot find any threads specifically to the auto's being component balanced at the shops. i mean FULL so pistons, rods, crank, the lot

can anyone assist and offer some advice on what is the best approach to this please

Never balance a flex plate, flywheel, or damper with the bottom end. Then if you need a new one, you have to balance the whole engine again.

An in-line 4 the crank is zero balanced. You can swap out rods and pistons, as long as they’re all matched in weight.
 
Bobby, when the balancing shop worked mine over, they only needed the crank, rods, pistons, rings and bearings. They told me they didn't even spin a 4 cylinder crank but they DID do a bit of material removal on the crank on the front counterweight and the rear counterweight areas. I attached a couple photos.

so it's NOT the same as a manual then as I read on google a lot will balance it with the flywheel since that puts strain on it and can cause some vibration issues if nots not added on, but putting nothing on makes sense also from the UNLIMITED adjustments afterwards. I'm no expert here in this field so I'm basing this from online reading and the best option, I'm not planning to change anything up, its all being built specifically with the parts that are being used always

crank/block bearings or just crank to rod bearings? i forgot to ask that question so thanks for that.

I'm having it all done due to the revs I'm wishing to eventually go to so its more precaution then anything, Molnar said they dont balance the crank to any combo sets, so they said its best to adjust it to what ever setup you are running to be safe. some of my items are light so that's apparently something that needs adjusting for.

Mine was done for "safety sake" since I turn 9200.
They only needed the rod bearings Bobby.

We’ve spun 11,000 rpm’s many times on untouched stock cranks. It’s an in-line 4, not a v engine. It’s a zero balance the crank, and as long as the rods and pistons are identical to each other you can change from stock to aftermarket with zero change in engine balance.

This is coming from someone who has actually balanced cranks in a $200,000 machine.

roger that, no flexplate or mounting on it, I think the write-ups on it were engine labs or motortrend or similar so it might of been a V engine. I may have missed them saying 4 pots are different if they did mention it. But thanks for the clarification, I shall make sure to not take those with me.
